- [00:00:08.980]electrical peak demand.
- [00:00:10.760]And so why is electrical peak demand
- [00:00:12.440]important to your business?
- [00:00:14.730]Understanding electrical peak demand can be useful
- [00:00:17.450]for your business to help reduce
- [00:00:18.880]your long-term operating cost.
- [00:00:21.090]We have seen some facilities here
- [00:00:22.670]in Nebraska showing peak demand charges
- [00:00:25.030]of up to 64% of the total bill cost.
- [00:00:28.530]Depending on your plant's operations,
- [00:00:30.600]there may be effective strategies you can implement
- [00:00:32.870]to drastically cut down on your cost.
- [00:00:35.490]So what is electrical peak demand?
- [00:00:37.990]It is the largest rate at which electricity
- [00:00:40.150]is being used at a given time or in other words,
- [00:00:43.140]the largest power draw at a given time.
- [00:00:45.940]It is not the actual electricity being used.
- [00:00:49.120]A facility's peak demand will depend on how much equipment
- [00:00:52.470]or operations are active at the same time.
- [00:00:55.610]Since industrial facilities
- [00:00:57.190]have a much larger power draw relative to residential
- [00:01:00.430]or commercial buildings, they can be billed
- [00:01:02.730]heavily on their electrical demand.
- [00:01:05.330]This is because electricity cannot be easily stored,
- [00:01:08.450]and the power provider must build enough infrastructure
- [00:01:11.710]to meet the high demand at any given moment.
- [00:01:15.390]Here in this video, we will see
- [00:01:17.060]how electrical demand is measured and billed.
- [00:01:20.070]And so here we have a figure
- [00:01:21.810]that shows perhaps what an electrical demand profile
- [00:01:25.160]might look like for a plant over the course of some time.
- [00:01:29.000]And so we see here that the electrical demand increases
- [00:01:32.400]to some peak value and then goes down.
- [00:01:35.390]And so typically, peak demand will be
- [00:01:38.110]averaged over fixed intervals,
- [00:01:40.510]and so here we have 15 minute intervals.
- [00:01:43.220]You'll take averages in these kind of ranges.
- [00:01:48.950]And what will happen is the company will select
- [00:01:51.740]the highest peak demand value that's been averaged
- [00:01:54.730]and they'll select that for you
- [00:01:55.860]to be billed over the course of say an entire month.
- [00:01:59.150]And so that's how electrical demand is billed.
