- [00:01:09.533]you know, nearly 26,000 students now with us on our campus
- [00:01:13.497]studying across all of our nine academic colleges
- [00:01:16.129]and to have our faculty and our staff back.
- [00:01:18.305]Tremendous buzz this year as we look into

- [00:01:24.990]our official 150th anniversary of
- [00:01:27.518]the state's land grant university.
- [00:01:29.719]15 decades of impact that we've had
- [00:01:32.454]in building and growing this state.
- [00:01:34.662]Alongside the state as it's developed
- [00:01:37.014]and we're excited about that.
- [00:01:38.894]Our N-150 commission has been working over
- [00:01:41.750]the course of the past year,
- [00:01:43.542]with work we had done the previous year,
- [00:01:45.678]to chart our course for the next 25 years
- [00:01:49.158]with a new strategic plan
- [00:01:50.742]that we're about to launch,
- [00:01:51.646]so lot's of exciting work
- [00:01:53.102]and exciting to be back on campus this fall
- [00:01:55.638]with our staff and our students.
- [00:01:56.926]Fantastic.
- [00:01:57.798]August is an interesting month
- [00:01:58.878]because not only are you launching
- [00:02:00.470]the beginning of the school year
- [00:02:02.022]but you also have a commencement ceremony
- [00:02:04.110]that takes place in August as well.
- [00:02:05.838]Well I kind of joked this past month with folks,
- [00:02:08.943]when I said there's six favorite times and days of the year
- [00:02:12.930]for me and three of them happen to be in August.
- [00:02:15.137]You know we have an August commencement
- [00:02:17.545]three of those six days in the year are commencements
- [00:02:20.114]for me that are so exciting
- [00:02:21.370]to see our graduates go into the world
- [00:02:23.601]so we had August commencement here
- [00:02:25.330]just a couple of weeks ago to wrap up
- [00:02:27.100]what was a record year for us.
- [00:02:29.986]5,515 graduates at the University of Nebraska Lincoln,
- [00:02:34.899]we've never graduated that number in our history.
- [00:02:37.636]Um, this coming May, I think we've talked a little bit
- [00:02:41.658]about this past spring, we had to think about our
- [00:02:44.298]commencement coming up in 2019.
- [00:02:46.587]Where will we have outgrown Pinnacle Bank Arena
- [00:02:49.224]and have to go to multiple ceremonies
- [00:02:51.592]for the first time in our history.
- [00:02:53.336]So commencement, again, in August, was exciting for us
- [00:02:58.327]to see those students go out into the world
- [00:03:00.359]some 750 additional graduates
- [00:03:03.186]Then the start, first day of classes.
- [00:03:05.154]Getting students back on campus
- [00:03:07.386]engaged in a new academic year
- [00:03:09.466]welcoming a new big freshman class
- [00:03:11.426]from all over the world to campus.
- [00:03:13.906]And then of course, the start of Husker football
- [00:03:16.027]season is that third day in August
- [00:03:18.883]that's a big one for us
- [00:03:21.308]so two more commencements to come
- [00:03:23.837]and I always talk about that sixth day
- [00:03:25.837]when we put seed in the ground in the spring
- [00:03:28.406]you know and harvest it in the fall
- [00:03:30.205]is the other big day.
- [00:03:31.078]Absolutely.
- [00:03:32.003]Well that's a good problem to have
- [00:03:33.683]you're having to spread out your commencement services
- [00:03:36.372]that's a good pr.. that means you're getting guys
- [00:03:37.915]through the system.
- [00:03:38.748]You know, who would've ever believed,
- [00:03:40.243]when we opened Pinnacle Bank Arena just a few years ago
- [00:03:42.619]that in 2019 we would be talking about the need to
- [00:03:46.723]go to more than one commencement ceremony
- [00:03:49.195]because you can't fit everyone in an arena.
- [00:03:50.995]That's a great problem to have.
- [00:03:52.564]It's a great problem to have for the university
- [00:03:54.251]for the state of Nebraska as we produce this talent
- [00:03:57.690]for the world from the University.
- [00:04:00.099]Well its a great time of year.
- [00:04:01.522]I'm thrilled to get this thing going.
- [00:04:03.026]You and I are gonna be at the Husker Huddle
- [00:04:05.042]over at the Alumni Association tomorrow night.
- [00:04:06.834]Bill Moose will be there
- [00:04:08.711]uh, how about his first year?
- [00:04:10.447]Coming up on his anniversary.
- [00:04:11.943]Well we are very excited to have Bill in
- [00:04:14.751]the leadership position as our athletic director
- [00:04:17.103]finishing up now his first full year.
- [00:04:18.999]You'll remember he came in last October.
- [00:04:21.013]Yeah
- [00:04:22.306]Took the reins and the leadership of Husker Athletics.
- [00:04:24.826]He's had a great first year.
- [00:04:27.444]Exciting time for him as he's watching
- [00:04:30.177]this football season unleash on us as well.
- [00:04:33.593]So great to have Bill here and the leadership
- [00:04:35.920]he's providing I think is stellar.
- [00:04:37.937]Absolutely, great.
- [00:04:38.865]We'll see you tomorrow night.
- [00:04:39.698]Thanks for coming in.
- [00:04:40.531]Well, thanks for having me and go Big Red.
- [00:04:42.200]Ronnie Green, the Chancellor of the University of Nebraska
