This video explains the Application Exclusion Zone, required by Worker Protection Standard (WPA) during pesticide applications.

[00:00:24.506]And what is the application exclusion zone, or the AEZ?
[00:00:27.606]This is an area that surrounds the application equipment,
[00:00:30.843]such as an aerial sprayer
[00:00:32.671]or a ground sprayer
[00:00:34.082]and moves with it, like a halo.
[00:00:35.862]It can extend from 25 to 100 feet
[00:00:37.822]from the outer most spray nozzle,
[00:00:39.842]depending on the application.

[00:00:43.923]Notice that the application exclusion zone
[00:00:45.689]is not limited to the field you are spraying.
[00:00:48.699]It extends into the neighboring field,
[00:00:50.129]road, forest,
[00:00:51.729]or whatever happens to be
[00:00:53.444]outside of the farm boundary.
[00:02:19.529]What if you are spraying a field
[00:02:21.650]and notice someone in the AEZ
[00:02:23.726]next to the field you are treating?
[00:02:26.116]You must suspend the application
[00:02:28.176]and cannot proceed until you are sure
[00:02:30.452]that the pesticide will not contact
[00:02:32.432]anyone who is in the AEZ in areas
[00:02:34.432]that extend beyond the boundary
[00:02:36.402]of the farm establishment’s property.
[00:02:39.092]You can ask them to move out of the area,
[00:02:41.542]and hopefully they will do so.
[00:02:44.075]When that happens,
[00:02:45.385]you can resume the application
[00:02:47.335]and proceed with caution.
[00:02:52.650]What if people are in the AEZ next to
[00:02:54.830]the field you are treating,
[00:02:56.471]you suspend the application,
[00:02:58.334]ask them to move,
[00:02:59.551]and they will not move out of the area?
[00:03:01.842]Check that if you were to continue spraying,
[00:03:04.172]they will not be contacted by drift.
[00:03:06.162]If the wind is blowing away
[00:03:07.807]from the workers and you know
[00:03:09.697]that your application will not contact them,
[00:03:12.157]you can proceed with the application.

[00:03:19.802]the AEZ no longer exists.
