[00:00:32.210]Our students, as they're preparing to move forward
[00:00:36.693]with their careers, and they're going to be
[00:00:40.630]working with a lot of families and children
[00:00:43.751]that have challenges and some limitations in opportunities.
[00:00:48.840]And I think that the most important thing for them
[00:00:51.700]to understand before they leave our college
[00:00:55.360]is where those families' strengths are
[00:00:58.010]and how they support each other
[00:01:00.550]and how they flourish.
[00:01:02.200]That's not something you read in the textbooks.
[00:01:05.180]Textbooks talk about the challenges
[00:01:08.380]and the limitations, and I want them to
[00:01:14.050]have a broader vision than that.
[00:01:15.720]What I'm most excited about is our partnership
[00:01:17.760]with the Ruth Staples Child Development Lab,
[00:01:19.975]and we already have their students coming to our site.
[00:01:23.440]Our students our visiting their site.
[00:01:25.390]We're integrating their curriculum into our
[00:01:28.560]everyday classroom here at the Malone Center.
[00:01:32.130]And so again, our kids are just getting equal access,
[00:01:34.660]and that's exciting.
[00:01:35.690]The children in this community deserve to have
[00:01:37.810]the opportunities of any child in Lincoln
[00:01:40.630]including the children in more affluent neighborhoods.
[00:01:43.500]These are talented kids.
[00:01:44.990]They just don't have the opportunity to express that
[00:01:48.340]in ways that they would if they had better facilities
[00:01:52.040]and more opportunities to interact with people
[00:01:54.600]who see the value of them and the opportunity in them.
[00:01:58.210]So for me, these children can achieve as much
[00:02:01.170]as possible if they're just given the chance.
