[00:00:06.770]in the lives of our students and in the community.
[00:00:10.410]As Alumni and Friends, you know the talent

[00:00:15.394]It's always worth reflecting on the impact
[00:00:17.738]we make especially here in the state.
[00:00:21.750]Master of Architecture Design Research Studios
[00:00:24.390]collaborate with non-profit partners
[00:00:26.880]to create some amazing facilities.
[00:00:29.940]Led by Jason Griffith, two design build
[00:00:32.639]projects are nearing completion.
[00:00:35.055]South Sioux City residents will soon enjoy
[00:00:37.690]a community orchard, multi-purpose facility.
[00:00:41.760]Work is wrapping up on a residential cabin
[00:00:44.480]at Cedar Point Biological Station near Ogallala.
[00:00:48.490]In the FACT studio, Jeffrey Day's students
[00:00:51.210]are working with the Sandhills Institute
[00:00:53.510]to transform a former Main Street grocery store
[00:00:56.450]in Rushville into an art gallery and event space.
[00:01:00.000]The impact on a small town like Rushville
[00:01:02.020]is huge because they don't normally have attention
[00:01:04.367]from a university or an architect or in this case
[00:01:08.802]11 architects working on a small project and giving them
[00:01:13.810]a tremendous amount of attention and really trying
[00:01:16.620]to think about how to engage this community.
[00:01:19.150]It's just like you feel that joy.
[00:01:20.460]That like you're helping, you're actually helping
[00:01:23.810]the community so yeah, it was awesome.
[00:01:28.200]Landscape Architecture Studio
[00:01:29.690]is working in Valentine, Nebraska
[00:01:31.436]on a rural community prosperity project
[00:01:34.250]with the University's Rural Futures Institute.
[00:01:37.560]The Studio is developing a place making framework plan
[00:01:40.890]focused on providing places and spaces to encourage
[00:01:43.688]economic development and generational renewal.
[00:01:47.420]The student's are creating designs
[00:01:49.440]for Valentine's Main Street, city park,
[00:01:53.060]a new housing development and a trail network.
[00:01:56.170]Designing for the Main Street is what project
[00:01:58.640]I'm working on right now and just, I love it so much.
[00:02:02.830]It made me realize that Landscape Architecture
[00:02:05.170]is exactly what I wanna do.
[00:02:06.750]Landscape Architecture also hosted their
[00:02:09.070]Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board site visit.
[00:02:12.619]From all accounts, the visitors
[00:02:14.937]were very positive about our program.
[00:02:17.950]We'll keep you posted as we receive
[00:02:19.244]the accreditation results.
[00:02:22.460]In the Interior Design program,
[00:02:23.798]200 and 300 Level Studios have been working
[00:02:27.488]with Kruger Collection curator DiAnna Hemsath,
[00:02:30.930]to create pedestal and four panel window exhibit displays.
[00:02:35.730]The new fixtures will debut with the upcoming fall
[00:02:38.850]exhibit called Body Curve Ornament.
[00:02:41.810]A lot of people when you hear Interior Design,
[00:02:44.290]they just think interior decorating but we do so much more
[00:02:47.330]than just that and so I think it's really cool
[00:02:50.150]that our project is to be displayed for a whole year
[00:02:53.120]and prospective students get to come and see that.
[00:02:57.130]In the Community and Regional Planning Program,
[00:02:59.233]we're always evaluating the needs of our students.
[00:03:02.450]Looking at ways to improve our educational offerings
[00:03:05.500]and what we provide the community.
[00:03:07.592]This fall, CRP is implementing a fourth graduation
[00:03:11.564]pathway, The Capstone Studio completion track.
[00:03:15.860]We're excited about that addition as well as
[00:03:18.450]our growing catalog of online offerings.
[00:03:21.450]CRP continues its work with the Lincoln
[00:03:23.606]chapter of Neighbor Works for neighborhood
[00:03:26.060]assessments and community planning.
[00:03:28.198]We have more community projects on the horizon.

[00:03:33.416]I'm gonna deviate a little here from our
[00:03:36.270]community impact news and focus on the impact
[00:03:38.970]many of you make for our students.
[00:03:42.250]Recently, we celebrated students during the
[00:03:45.070]College of Architecture scholarships and awards ceremony.
[00:03:48.560]There, I listened to the stories behind the gifts
[00:03:51.135]donors have made to impact student's lives.
[00:03:54.507]Memorializing a loved one or someone
[00:03:57.161]who has a profound impact on your life.
[00:04:00.700]Recognizing the importance of area's such as leadership,
[00:04:03.809]or the impact of travel on student's perspectives.
[00:04:07.610]It occurs to me that not only do each of us have
[00:04:10.966]the opportunity to make an impact on the organizations
[00:04:14.140]and communities of our state, we also have the opportunity
[00:04:18.460]to significantly affect the future of our professions.
[00:04:22.380]Finally, I need your help.
[00:04:24.660]I honestly can't count how many times someone has told me
[00:04:27.677]I had no idea the college makes such a community impact.
[00:04:31.890]Well, I don't want us to be the best kept secret
[00:04:34.745]in Nebraska or the country for that matter.
[00:04:37.529]We need our decision makers to take note
[00:04:40.710]and realize the amazing projects our students
[00:04:43.172]and faculty are taking on everyday.
[00:04:46.810]So please, share this video with others
