[00:00:06.586]I'm assistant professor in the Department of
[00:00:08.849]Computer Science and Engineering here at UNL.
[00:00:12.438]I work on the security of CPU/FPGA systems.
[00:00:17.221]When it comes to the design of computer systems,
[00:00:20.096]one of our major goals is to improve the performance
[00:00:24.104]and make our computations faster and faster.
[00:00:27.416]And to better achieve this goal,
[00:00:29.696]recently there is a trend of incorporating
[00:00:33.910]hardware accelerators like FPGA into the computer systems.
[00:00:38.747]This new architecture has been adopted
[00:00:42.261]in several computer systems.
[00:00:45.500]Until now, the community has mostly focused on
[00:00:49.395]the performance and the usability of this new architecture.
[00:00:54.461]But, as a security researcher,
[00:00:56.427]my work mainly focus on the security issues.
[00:01:00.782]My observation is that, the new communication
[00:01:04.203]and the computation model introduced by
[00:01:07.508]this CPU and FPGA system will introduce
[00:01:12.501]a brand new attack surface that
[00:01:14.968]can be exploited by attackers.
[00:01:18.080]This research will provide a security framework
[00:01:22.952]to ensure the security after we add
[00:01:26.278]this additional computation resource
[00:01:28.798]into the computer systems.
[00:01:31.254]So that can benefit many fields of study
[00:01:33.526]that leverage computation.
