- [00:00:07.360]May 2018 commencement ceremonies.
- [00:00:09.550]This process takes approximately two weeks
- [00:00:11.940]for our staff to complete.
- [00:00:13.620]Many other institutions, when they attend the ceremony,
- [00:00:16.578]they get a blank diploma cover,
- [00:00:18.870]but that's not the case here.
- [00:00:20.580]Our students, when they cross the stage,
- [00:00:24.300]they actually get their diploma.
- [00:00:26.520]We're quite proud of that actually.
- [00:00:28.510]We think it makes our commencement cermonies special.
- [00:00:32.210]Somewhere between 82 and 85 percent of our
- [00:00:35.130]undergraduate students actually attend a ceremony
- [00:00:37.880]and we think that that's attributed in part too
- [00:00:41.580]to the fact that they get their diploma
- [00:00:43.390]when they cross the stage.
- [00:00:46.990]You know, Nebraska's about tradition
- [00:00:48.730]and this is, I think, one of the most prestigious things
- [00:00:52.400]that we do.
- [00:00:53.980]People are amazed that ya know,
- [00:00:57.180]we still hand out the diplomas and I'm very proud of that.
- [00:01:02.580]I like being part of that.
- [00:01:08.510]So, what's happening right now is,
- [00:01:10.960]we are preparing the diplomas for our commencement ceremony.
- [00:01:14.067]It takes us approximately two weeks to get
- [00:01:17.110]the diplomas in order, numbered,
- [00:01:19.604]and ready to go for the actual ceremonies.
- [00:01:22.751]So, here's how it works.
- [00:01:25.370]We print labels with student names on it by college
- [00:01:28.630]and those labels are put on an envelope that has
- [00:01:31.610]the big red N on it.
- [00:01:33.960]We put the diploma in the red, padded diploma cover
- [00:01:38.790]and then slip it inside the red N envelope.
- [00:01:45.220]The paper cuts are very hazardous
- [00:01:47.537]and we always wish we could have a manicure afterwards.

- [00:01:53.780]Once I get the final floor plan
- [00:01:56.900]from the head marshal, at that point, we will assign numbers
- [00:02:00.910]and put those numbers on the diploma cover
- [00:02:04.460]so that when they cross that stage, they get
- [00:02:06.869]their diploma.
- [00:02:14.110]By the time we're done prepping our diplomas,
- [00:02:16.610]we will have 26 carts filled with diplomas
- [00:02:19.550]that will need to be moved to Pinnacle Bank Arena.
- [00:02:22.640]We will fill two semi trucks to move these carts
- [00:02:25.830]to Pinnacle Bank Arena.
- [00:02:27.460]You know, it's a sense of satisfaction
- [00:02:29.530]when we get this all done
- [00:02:30.950]and when we get em all into the covers
- [00:02:35.300]and have em lined up in the back.
- [00:02:38.177]It's quite a feeling.
- [00:02:42.230]The graduation services staff are passionate
- [00:02:45.210]about the work that they do
- [00:02:46.890]and they're meticulous when they're, ya know,
- [00:02:49.380]reviewing the details to make sure that students
- [00:02:51.410]are qualified to graduate.
- [00:02:53.160]We check and we recheck to make sure
- [00:02:55.660]that we've got the names on the list,
- [00:02:57.450]that they're in the order that they should be,
- [00:02:59.290]that the names are spelled the way they should be
- [00:03:01.690]and so, we do multiple checks and so, there are very few,
- [00:03:06.410]if any, errors that occur when they get their diploma
- [00:03:10.000]and again, my staff are really proud of that fact.

- [00:03:18.810]they're all excited, they're meeting friends
- [00:03:21.590]that they've made from different towns, different states.
- [00:03:25.970]It's their happy time and it's fun to see that.

- [00:03:32.140]just how exciting it is to see our students
- [00:03:35.250]get their diplomas.
- [00:03:36.500]It is absolutely fun to be a part of it
- [00:03:38.360]and to be behind the scenes and make it happen.
