[00:00:10.620]And I'd like to share some information with you today
[00:00:13.400]about our master's degree program,
[00:00:15.720]and our Principal Certification Program.
[00:00:19.400]Let's talk about the Master's in Education, the MEd.
[00:00:23.790]MEd is a 36-hour graduate program.
[00:00:27.390]It includes 12 courses, 11 of the courses are required,
[00:00:31.630]and you will have the opportunity to choose one elective
[00:00:34.970]from an EDAD course when you enter into the MEd program.
[00:00:40.780]Now, the course formats offer, there are two course formats.
[00:00:44.080]They have a blended format, and we have an online format.
[00:00:47.890]The blended format will give you an opportunity
[00:00:51.100]to take about half of your classes in a face-to-face setting
[00:00:55.560]here in Lincoln.
[00:00:57.480]The balance of the blended format class is there online.
[00:01:01.690]The online format will give you an opportunity
[00:01:04.630]the entire program online, if that works best for you.
[00:01:09.570]Now, during the blended format, we meet off-campus,
[00:01:14.490]at the Nebraska Council of School Administrators building
[00:01:17.090]which is located at 455 South 11th Street.
[00:01:21.760]At the NCSA building, you have an opportunity to meet
[00:01:24.547]the administrative staff of the professional organization,
[00:01:29.270]the administrative professional organization
[00:01:31.520]in Nebraska, the Nebraska Council of School Administrators,
[00:01:35.080]begin to network with principals and superintendents
[00:01:37.740]from across the state, and have an opportunity
[00:01:41.170]to meet in a setting where
[00:01:44.090]there's no parking permits required.
[00:01:46.530]That may be the best thing about the NCSA site location,
[00:01:51.050]no parking required.
[00:01:55.018]During the fall and the spring sessions, the blended format
[00:01:59.090]classes that meet at the NCSA building meet
[00:02:02.250]from 4:30 to 8:30 on Thursday evenings.
[00:02:06.400]During summer session, we also meet at the NCSA building,
[00:02:10.060]and typically, those classes meet for one week
[00:02:14.040]out of the summer.
[00:02:15.820]And again,
[00:02:16.653]the best thing about meeting
[00:02:17.560]at the NCSA building, no parking permit is required.
[00:02:22.440]During your last course
[00:02:26.310]in the EDAD program in the MEd program, you will take
[00:02:31.340]the practicum EDAD 811 is The Practicum Experience.
[00:02:35.510]In the practicum, you'll be required
[00:02:37.150]to write a Capstone paper.
[00:02:39.300]The Capstone is a reflection of the coursework
[00:02:43.100]that you've experienced, and your work
[00:02:46.360]with the professional standards for educational leaders.
[00:02:50.410]In the paper, you'll be asked to write a reflection
[00:02:53.060]on your learning experiences, how they relate
[00:02:56.600]to the standards, and how you plan,
[00:02:58.970]as a future administrator, to apply those standards
[00:03:02.700]in your work in Nebraska Public Schools.
[00:03:06.040]One final requirement related to the program,
[00:03:09.090]to the MEd program, and to the certification program,
[00:03:12.530]is the Praxis exam.
[00:03:15.231]The Nebraska Department of Education requires that
[00:03:17.690]all administrators take and pass the Praxis exam
[00:03:22.730]before they are issued
[00:03:23.950]a Nebraska Administrative Certificate.
[00:03:26.620]The Praxis exam is to school administrators,
[00:03:30.050]what the bar exam is to students who finish law school.
[00:03:33.920]Graduate from law school, pass the bar,
[00:03:36.150]you become an attorney.
[00:03:38.550]Finish the MEd program, or the Principal Certification
[00:03:41.370]program, pass the Praxis exam,
[00:03:43.770]you can become a building principal.
[00:03:46.930]Our certification program is very similar to the MEd program
[00:03:50.900]but there are a couple of nuances, differences that you
[00:03:53.640]want to be aware of.
[00:03:55.530]If you already hold a master's degree, you'll want
[00:03:58.250]to consider the Principal Certification Program.
[00:04:02.430]It is also a 36-hour program of study, 12 courses,
[00:04:07.150]with one elective, but you will be able to bring
[00:04:10.550]in prior graduate coursework to the certification program.
[00:04:17.060]With the MEd program, you're not allowed to transfer
[00:04:19.990]in prior graduate coursework.
[00:04:23.720]Courses that you will be allowed to transfer to the program
[00:04:27.570]of study cannot be more than 10 years old,
[00:04:31.340]and they must relate to course requirements that are listed
[00:04:35.460]in your program of study.
[00:04:37.320]Typically, students who start the certification program
[00:04:40.450]with a master's degree will be able to bring in three
[00:04:43.830]to six hours into this program of study.
[00:04:47.480]Principal candidates in the certification program
[00:04:50.910]also write a Capstone paper, and will be required
[00:04:54.460]to take the Praxis exam before
[00:04:56.030]their certificate is issued.
[00:04:58.380]Just a couple of other details related to the application
[00:05:01.160]process that may be helpful.
[00:05:05.200]Prospective candidates can complete
[00:05:07.410]the entire application process online.
[00:05:10.750]Applications must be completed and submitted
[00:05:14.020]by March 1st to be considered for admission
[00:05:17.210]to the summer term.
[00:05:19.940]March 1st is the deadline, students who are admitted
[00:05:23.440]after March 1st will begin their program of study
[00:05:26.870]in the first summer session in the following summer.
[00:05:31.800]Your first course in your program of study
[00:05:35.160]will be the EDAD block.
[00:05:37.250]It's a six hour course that combines
[00:05:40.750]EDAD 800 Educational Research,
[00:05:44.760]and EDAD 948 Instructional Leadership.
[00:05:48.330]During the block, you'll be on campus four days,
[00:05:51.940]and the rest of the program will be completed online.
