- [00:00:09.484]You like, from time to time,
- [00:00:10.964]to highlight some of our great alums,
- [00:00:13.320]and tonight we're gonna highlight the guy
- [00:00:14.315]that's been calling the game here
- [00:00:15.492]the first half, Jake Muhlheisen.
- [00:00:17.353]Big in the community and a great example
- [00:00:19.243]of alum of this university.
- [00:00:21.484]Well you know, Greg,
- [00:00:23.142]we're very proud of our alumni.
- [00:00:25.037]They now have over 195,000, going on 200,000,
- [00:00:29.309]living alumni all over the world.
- [00:00:31.525]And some of the ones we're the proudest of
- [00:00:33.389]are the ones who come from Nebraska,
- [00:00:35.797]who settle in Nebraska, who have great success in Nebraska.
- [00:00:39.119]And certainly Jake fits that bill.
- [00:00:41.614]You know, is exceptional former student-athlete,
- [00:00:43.825]well-known basketball player with a big history of his own
- [00:00:47.520]and now doing some call, play, and force,
- [00:00:51.114]and commentary works, so Union Bank professional
- [00:00:55.848]here in Lincoln, a proud grad of Southeast High School
- [00:00:59.168]in Lincoln, and former Husker.
- [00:01:01.408]So very proud of what Jake's doing in the community
- [00:01:03.808]and it's alum, and good to have him with us today.
- [00:01:06.816]Jake, appreciate your work on the games
- [00:01:08.824]throughout the season as well.
- [00:01:09.904]You majored in finance, ended up getting your MBA.
- [00:01:13.050]Was banking something you thought you wanted to do
- [00:01:15.233]when you were kinda going through your college days?
- [00:01:17.152]Yeah a little bit, you know with my family
- [00:01:18.634]being in banking it was always kind of
- [00:01:20.063]in the back of my mind, but I was kinda
- [00:01:22.023]going the career path at staying in athletics.
- [00:01:24.776]I was a grad assistant and got my MBA.
- [00:01:27.469]I always wanted to be a college basketball coach
- [00:01:28.912]and then I met my wife and found out
- [00:01:30.360]that it wasn't really conducive to the family life.
- [00:01:33.669]So I got into banking not really knowing
- [00:01:35.655]if I would be there for a career.
- [00:01:37.987]I've been in the Union Bank for 11 years now
- [00:01:39.647]and it's been awesome.
- [00:01:41.460]As you graduate, banking doesn't sound super sexy
- [00:01:44.264]but when you have good people to work with
- [00:01:46.278]and a good culture, it's a great place to be.
- [00:01:48.824]Husker fans remember you as the guy
- [00:01:50.368]who could score but also dish the ball.
- [00:01:52.274]Got some rebounds in there.
- [00:01:53.951]Now that you're in the banking business
- [00:01:56.066]talk about your competitive fire.
- [00:01:57.528]Does it spur you on in your day-to-day work?
- [00:02:01.110]Yeah it does, it does, and my boss L.G. Searcey
- [00:02:03.854]played football at Nebraska so he knows
- [00:02:05.960]how to kind of push my buttons
- [00:02:07.789]when it comes to numbers and what not.
- [00:02:09.068]And it keeps me competitive.
- [00:02:10.316]So yeah it's definitely a fun place to be
- [00:02:13.071]and it's a competitive atmosphere.
- [00:02:16.008]My dad always told me to do your best
- [00:02:17.517]and treat people how you wanna be treated
- [00:02:18.629]and that's what I'm trying to do.
- [00:02:20.175]Just do my best each and every day
- [00:02:21.709]and be a good professional.
- [00:02:23.749]You must think fondly back on your college days
- [00:02:25.726]not only on the court but the fact that
- [00:02:27.325]got you a great education.
- [00:02:28.451]Yeah it did, UNL was awesome.
- [00:02:30.549]I talked to a lot of my former teammates
- [00:02:32.695]and my former friends and we had a great time at UNL.
- [00:02:37.245]We wish we could go back to those
- [00:02:39.307]college days and relive them.
- [00:02:41.120]So yeah we had a great time here and I got a great education
- [00:02:43.848]and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
- [00:02:45.328]Ronnie just another good example
- [00:02:46.856]of an alum doing some things and The Muhl has a name
- [00:02:49.125]so big in the Lincoln community.
- [00:02:50.478]Absolutely, and Union Bank is a real partner
- [00:02:52.728]with the university in so many ways.
- [00:02:55.729]They're on our campus too, and we're very proud of that
- [00:02:59.345]relationship and that partnership with Union Bank and Trust.
- [00:03:03.072]Jake's doing great things, so really great to have him here.
- [00:03:06.578]15 of the top 20 places that our students land
- [00:03:09.936]when they graduate with a degree from UNL is in Nebraska.
- [00:03:13.528]And Union Bank's one of those.
- [00:03:15.358]So great to have him here today.
