- [00:00:07.276]Hey, my name is Tom Workman.
- [00:00:09.445]I'm one of the designers of the FailSafe Toolkit.
- [00:00:12.823]You've probably been hearing my voice
- [00:00:14.165]throughout all these modules that you've been listening to.
- [00:00:17.266]But I wanted to come on personally for this segment
- [00:00:20.431]and be able to talk to you very specifically
- [00:00:22.529]about a few things.
- [00:00:24.328]First, I wanted to say thank you
- [00:00:26.572]for showing good leadership and working to make
- [00:00:28.912]your organization a little bit safer
- [00:00:31.729]and much better at managing the risks around alcohol.
- [00:00:35.291]I know this is hard work, but what you're doing
- [00:00:38.059]is really creating a better organization
- [00:00:41.201]and your leadership skills are shining.
- [00:00:43.547]Thanks for taking the time to do that.
- [00:00:46.157]The other thing I wanted to say to you was
- [00:00:47.934]hang in there.
- [00:00:49.390]I know sometimes it takes time for these tools
- [00:00:51.757]to really make an effect in your organization.
- [00:00:54.901]You may be getting a little bit of resistance
- [00:00:56.661]from some of the members who really don't
- [00:00:58.888]want to change their risks and really still don't
- [00:01:01.552]fully understand why it's important for them
- [00:01:04.593]to do the things that the tools are suggesting
- [00:01:06.899]that you do, whether that's following your policies
- [00:01:10.342]or really agreeing to let someone step in
- [00:01:13.351]when they need to, to help keep them
- [00:01:15.575]and others safe.
- [00:01:17.229]Don't give up yet.
- [00:01:18.599]It may take a little bit of time, but I promise you
- [00:01:20.987]in some time, you'll start to see some changes
- [00:01:23.835]and people start to see the benefits,
- [00:01:25.330]that they still can have a great time
- [00:01:27.780]without all those problems.
- [00:01:30.681]The third thing I wanted to talk about
- [00:01:32.214]is that sometimes there are members
- [00:01:34.978]who need a little extra support,
- [00:01:37.257]especially the day after a problem has occurred.
- [00:01:40.915]Such as winding up having to go to the hospital
- [00:01:43.729]because of their drinking or getting a police arrest
- [00:01:46.939]or citation or simply doing something
- [00:01:49.723]that they don't remember and regret perhaps
- [00:01:53.564]because of their drinking the night before.
- [00:01:56.164]These quick conversations, which aren't about
- [00:01:59.311]getting in trouble, they're not about holding
- [00:02:01.312]the member accountable.
- [00:02:03.437]They're not really adjudication,
- [00:02:05.001]which you might do at a different time
- [00:02:07.226]to hold the person individually accountable
- [00:02:09.669]and decide what you're going to do.
- [00:02:11.775]This conversation is pure support
- [00:02:14.267]and in the open light of the next day,
- [00:02:17.415]gives you a chance to help that member
- [00:02:19.765]make some decisions about what happened,
- [00:02:22.065]what caused what happened
- [00:02:23.731]and how they could do things differently.
- [00:02:25.997]Let's see you give a personal touch
- [00:02:28.424]for each individual member.
- [00:02:30.326]We'll gonna show you in this tool
- [00:02:31.647]a very quick and simple way to have that conversation.
