Description

The demolition and implosion of Cather-Pound Residence Hall complex at the University of Nebraska provides a unique opportunity for research. A team from the University of Nebraska College of Engineering is studying the demolition in an effort to make buildings safer.

[00:00:39.277]and ultimately how they may behave
[00:00:41.382]during an extreme event.
[00:00:43.397]Our research group is looking at the accuracy
[00:00:46.520]with which computer models predict how the thing falls.
[00:00:49.878]And by doing that, we can kind of back into
[00:00:53.235]what we need to do to improve the tools
[00:00:57.039]that we use to predict the response
[00:00:59.172]of other buildings, so that potential future events
[00:01:03.533]can be prevented, and if not prevented,
[00:01:07.403]then mitigated somewhat.

[00:01:12.938]effective training of our graduate students
[00:01:15.883]and really the future workforce.
