[00:00:09.399]As the recently named Dean of the College of Business,
[00:00:12.556]I want to thank you for your support,
[00:00:14.620]and share a few highlights for 2017.
[00:00:18.437]In January, I started as the interim dean.
[00:00:21.031]Two months later, the Board of Regions
[00:00:24.303]approved dropping Administration from our name.
[00:00:29.286]In August, our faculty and staff,
[00:00:31.142]housed in three different buildings,
[00:00:33.425]moved into the new College of Business.
[00:00:36.565]This major accomplishment was achieved in six days,
[00:00:40.223]two days ahead of schedule.
[00:00:43.542]Our build was named Howard L. Hawks Hall,
[00:00:46.257]after our alumnus and regent,
[00:00:48.742]who championed the privately funded building.

[00:00:54.822]On August 18th, we kicked off the fall semester
[00:00:58.822]with the Open for Business ribbon-cutting
[00:01:01.395]and back to school bash.
[00:01:02.915]More than 900 students, alumni,
[00:01:05.576]partners and friends, came to see Hawks Hall.
[00:01:08.616]In September, we celebrated Business Week
[00:01:11.854]with a spotlight on ethics.
[00:01:14.574]We hosted a tailgate, giving away 200 hot dogs
[00:01:18.112]and T-shirts, in less than 45 minutes.
[00:01:20.530]That has to be a new record.
[00:01:22.872]And we were featured at the Nebraska Alumni Association's
[00:01:25.955]Football Friday.
[00:01:29.827]In October, our 16 advisory boards
[00:01:32.130]came for our annual partnership summit in Hawks Hall,
[00:01:36.494]and go to try out our new classrooms and meeting spaces.
[00:01:39.888]So how do we look?
[00:01:41.650]After the State of the College Address,
[00:01:43.752]we honored Tom Heacock with the Young Alumnus Award.
[00:01:47.250]The experiences I had at the College of Business,
[00:01:49.971]all the people I met were really instrumental
[00:01:52.451]in my development, and as I started my career
[00:01:54.195]in public accounting... (clapping)
[00:01:56.549]Alumnus Tom Ostergard
[00:01:58.595]delivered the luncheon keynote address.
[00:02:00.910]Our job is only partially complete.
[00:02:03.294]A building is but an empty shrine without scholarships
[00:02:05.891]to attract the best and brightest students,
[00:02:08.654]and endowed chairs to support the innovative educators
[00:02:11.872]that develop those future leaders.
[00:02:14.551]This new building represents both the generosity
[00:02:17.488]of our partners, and our ambitious goals for the future.
[00:02:21.592]I am honored to lead the College of Business,
[00:02:24.355]and to build on the recent momentum.
