- [00:00:05.413]Greg Sharpe with you in the
- [00:00:06.339]Huskers Sports Network Studio, joined by
- [00:00:07.384]University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor, Ronnie Green.
- [00:00:10.983]Who brought with him a very special guest,
- [00:00:12.737]a former Husker volleyball star, 2003 second team
- [00:00:16.275]Academic All American Anna Zycheck.
- [00:00:18.559]You all will remember her as Anna Schrad.
- [00:00:21.390]Ronnie, clearly Anna, terrific Alum of the University
- [00:00:25.287]who's gone on to do great things.
- [00:00:26.769]We hear this story so often,
- [00:00:27.979]but it's so fun to hear Husker Alums
- [00:00:30.110]go out and do some great things.
- [00:00:32.017]Very good, it's amazing the talent
- [00:00:34.622]that comes out of this state and to see
- [00:00:36.272]talent that comes to the University,
- [00:00:39.073]excels academically, excels athletically,
- [00:00:41.750]as Anna did, from right here in Lincoln.
- [00:00:45.295]A local Lincoln-ite, who came to the University,
- [00:00:48.643]and then has gone on and done great things
- [00:00:51.138]professionally in her own career.
- [00:00:53.914]I know John Cook, I'm reading Coach Cook's book right now.
- [00:00:57.310]He's been making sure that I'm getting educated and
- [00:01:00.739]his book talks about the hard work and
- [00:01:03.937]the work ethic and the belief and the passion
- [00:01:06.525]that our women's volleyball players exhibit,
- [00:01:09.466]like we're seeing in here tonight and Anna
- [00:01:12.719]is the epitome of that, as you say and
- [00:01:16.385]to see her having gone into the medical profession and
- [00:01:19.263]going on to UNMC and done well in her training there and
- [00:01:23.530]then stayed.
- [00:01:25.006]Stayed in Omaha as a Nebraska Medicine
- [00:01:27.985]in the Radiology field, is a great thing to see.
- [00:01:31.161]So, couldn't be more pleased to be welcoming
- [00:01:33.019]Anna back here tonight.
- [00:01:34.265]Yeah and it's great to have you
- [00:01:35.377]with us today and you're in the medical field?
- [00:01:37.397]A radiologist?
- [00:01:38.230]Tell us what you're doing.
- [00:01:39.210]Yes, so I am an Assistant Professor of Radiology
- [00:01:42.140]at Nebraska Medicine, or UNMC.
- [00:01:43.937]We're all kind of one thing now and
- [00:01:46.590]I love what I do.
- [00:01:47.865]I get a chance to be in the field of medicine and
- [00:01:51.699]take care of people and help diagnose conditions and
- [00:01:55.186]I love what I do and I've been able to pull in
- [00:01:57.754]a little bit of the sports side of things as well.
- [00:01:59.806]Yeah.
- [00:02:00.838]I specialized in musculoskeletal radiology, so
- [00:02:03.560]we do anything with bone and joints and muscles.
- [00:02:06.486]So, I get a little bit of the sports side, too.
- [00:02:08.758]I couldn't let it go.
- [00:02:10.126]Coach Cook singled you out as one of the hardest
- [00:02:11.874]workers on the team when you played, how
- [00:02:13.943]have you been able to take that work ethic and
- [00:02:15.804]how did that background in sports help you in your career?
- [00:02:19.539]Hard work has always been a huge part of me.
- [00:02:23.146]I've always loved a challenge and so,
- [00:02:26.268]early in my life, that was normal and
- [00:02:29.279]was always my dream to play for the Huskers and
- [00:02:31.752]so, it was wonderful for that to come true and
- [00:02:35.697]when those days sort of came to a close and
- [00:02:37.705]I was figuring out what I wanted to do, I got
- [00:02:40.121]intellectual challenge in finding something
- [00:02:42.430]that was meaningful and able to help people
- [00:02:45.050]kind of seemed to just be the natural progression.
- [00:02:48.200]So, medical school was what was next for me and
- [00:02:51.359]it's been really a great challenge and
- [00:02:54.400]I continue to bring that and it's wonderful
- [00:02:56.785]to be able to provide care for people and
- [00:02:59.696]UNMC is such a draw for the state, sort of
- [00:03:04.333]the center for medical care and so to be
- [00:03:07.291]able to provide care for Nebraskans and
- [00:03:09.853]set a good example for my family.
- [00:03:11.490]It's wonderful.
- [00:03:12.908]Fantastic.
- [00:03:13.741]Well, Anna, great to have you with us.
- [00:03:15.182]Another great example of a student athlete.
- [00:03:17.340]Nebraska has done some wonderful things and
- [00:03:18.859]I know you're enjoying the volleyball season, as well.
- [00:03:20.840]Ah, we certainly are.
- [00:03:21.876]You know, it's always a pleasure to watch
- [00:03:23.550]these youngsters, as I like to still think of them.
- [00:03:27.601]Put their heart out on the line
- [00:03:28.896]every time they go on the court and
- [00:03:31.579]know this story Anna is telling
- [00:03:33.545]about her experience, you know, those 329
- [00:03:37.227]Academic All-Americans, the Husker Athletics,
- [00:03:40.377]is very proud of and the state of Nebraska and
- [00:03:42.645]the University is so deeply proud of.
- [00:03:44.638]You know, Anna is a prime example of that,
- [00:03:47.254]here with us tonight but you know,
- [00:03:48.871]we have students who are going to go do great things,
- [00:03:51.577]who have the opportunity to come here, be a part
- [00:03:55.187]of this great University and then go make
- [00:03:57.873]their impact in life.
- [00:03:59.160]So, Anna, so proud of you and what you're doing, and
- [00:04:02.700]what you did while you were here as a student athlete and
- [00:04:05.628]she might even have a youngster along
- [00:04:07.296]with her tonight, you know, that might be
- [00:04:08.524]going into those shoes later on.
- [00:04:10.148]We were kidding ourselves about that earlier tonight.
- [00:04:12.549]So, great to have her here and go Big Red!
- [00:04:15.107]Wonderful, Anna, great to see ya, as well.
- [00:04:16.443]Thank you, Greg.
- [00:04:17.276]Thank you, Chancellor.
- [00:04:18.109]And more of the action against Maryland coming up next.
