[00:00:09.224]an ambitious target of $600 million
[00:00:11.029]in total research expenditures by 2025.
[00:00:14.344]Accelerating our sponsored funding in national defense
[00:00:17.468]and security will be an important part
[00:00:19.155]of reaching that goal.
[00:00:21.589]Nebraska has real competitive advantages in this area,
[00:00:24.529]including our partnership with
[00:00:25.893]the National Strategic Research Institute,
[00:00:28.264]our unique research facilities,
[00:00:30.157]and our collaborative research environment,
[00:00:33.363]but Nebraska's greatest advantage lies in you, our faculty.
[00:00:37.371]We have strong track records with the Department of Defense
[00:00:39.521]in physics, engineering, and computer science,
[00:00:42.984]but today's defense research also needs
[00:00:44.885]political, medical, and behavioral scientists, ecologists,
[00:00:48.480]sociologists, and faculty from many other disciplines.
[00:00:52.269]Whatever your discipline is, we want to help you realize
[00:00:55.011]your potential to work in this exciting research sector.

[00:01:01.528]University Activity for Research in Defense.
[00:01:05.429]Before I came to Nebraska, I worked in the computer industry
[00:01:08.619]and had my own company.
[00:01:10.760]Most of our work was in defense contracting, which is
[00:01:13.392]very different from securing NSF, USDA, or NIH grants,
[00:01:17.424]and I know this can be a barrier to faculty seeking
[00:01:19.213]DOD or DHS funding.
[00:01:22.035]NGUARD offers access to information and services
[00:01:24.816]that will help you successfully pursue
[00:01:26.629]defense-related funding.
[00:01:28.629]We have talented staff in sponsored programs,
[00:01:31.069]proposal development, and research compliance,
[00:01:34.142]with experience in these areas, who can work alongside you
[00:01:36.802]in developing your projects.
