- [00:00:17.666]School of Biological Sciences.

- [00:00:25.474]took a summer class at Cedar pOint.
- [00:00:27.806]The very best thing is that focused time
- [00:00:29.929]to make work, so having two weeks
- [00:00:31.812]where we were hyper focused on what we were doing
- [00:00:34.133]and we had this really collaborative community,
- [00:00:37.162]it was just an incredible experience.

- [00:00:40.576]Karen Kunc, says science and art have a lot in common.
- [00:00:44.199]That kind of obsession to get into something
- [00:00:47.026]really deeply and ask questions
- [00:00:49.767]and follow leads, it's the same kind of research path
- [00:00:54.059]that the scientists and artists do follow.
- [00:00:57.423]The Art at Cedar Point Project
- [00:00:59.209]also offers an Artist in Residence program
- [00:01:02.164]and a collaboration with Ogallala Public Schools.
- [00:01:05.933]University students develop
- [00:01:07.702]and lead art adventure camps for kids.
- [00:01:10.852]We did clay day and we've made clay from natural sources
- [00:01:14.504]around Cedar Point
- [00:01:16.246]and the kids like came alive, oh my gosh.
- [00:01:19.899]The lessons that the art students came up with
- [00:01:23.421]to teach from allowed them to see
- [00:01:25.943]their environment in a new way.
- [00:01:28.484]From art and the humanities
- [00:01:30.893]to music and theater,
- [00:01:32.401]the University of Nebraska reaches out
- [00:01:34.226]to the community.
- [00:01:35.834]Dr. Kunc extends her reach at Cedar Point
- [00:01:38.546]and at her Lincoln studio
- [00:01:40.330]where she offers exhibits and classes.
- [00:01:43.432]It's very important to have this broader scope
- [00:01:46.724]and outreach that the university can have.
- [00:01:49.379]Cedar Point is a wonderful anchor,
- [00:01:51.366]so to have the university have a presence
- [00:01:54.889]and to show the research and engagement
- [00:01:58.251]and activity and kind of enthusiasm
- [00:02:00.890]that all the faculty and students have
- [00:02:02.677]when they're in this space
- [00:02:04.007]is really a great representation of our mission.
