[00:00:07.210]of Inside Nebraska Business.
[00:00:09.570]We ushered in a new era on August 18th
[00:00:12.791]as we opened this new 240,000 square foot
[00:00:17.060]state of the art building.
[00:00:23.122]More than 900 students, parents, alumni, faculty, staff,
[00:00:27.619]and friends joined us to open Howard L. Hawks Hall.
[00:00:34.089]There is no place like Nebraska
[00:00:36.790]that would have done something like this,
[00:00:38.790]that would have had the vision for this.
[00:00:41.431]To all the donors, thank you for believing in us,
[00:00:44.566]for taking a risk on us, these faculty
[00:00:47.983]and the staff and the students are gonna work
[00:00:50.202]really really hard to make you proud.

[00:00:54.921]Just think about the incredible teaching and learning
[00:00:57.321]that's going to take place here, and the impact
[00:01:00.153]that these graduates and these faculty members
[00:01:03.189]will have on our workforce for generations to come.
[00:01:06.391]Dean Farrell turned to me and asked,
[00:01:08.250]"well, what do you think?"
[00:01:10.496]And all I could say was this is home.
[00:01:14.842]Hawks Hall has more than doubled our space
[00:01:17.239]and our students are loving it.
[00:01:20.087]The new building allows for all business classes,
[00:01:23.111]centers, and offices to be under one roof.
[00:01:26.122]There are so many areas to highlight.
[00:01:28.411]However, some spaces are still
[00:01:30.572]in transition, so I'll feature three.
[00:01:34.090]The new Trading Room enhances both teaching and learning.
[00:01:37.546]Students gain a practical understanding
[00:01:40.173]of the financial markets, and develop
[00:01:42.394]financial analysis skills using the same Bloomberg terminals
[00:01:46.211]used by many financial services firms.
[00:01:50.971]One of our strong university partnerships
[00:01:53.325]led us to a new Husker shop located
[00:01:55.894]in the northwest corner of the building.
[00:01:58.413]What makes this really a unique opportunity
[00:02:00.755]and unique compared to other schools around the country
[00:02:03.765]is the fact we're partnering with the athletic department
[00:02:06.743]and with Fanatics which is a two billion dollar
[00:02:09.143]retail apparel company, and we're able to get data
[00:02:13.594]from Fanatics whether it's marketing, finance,
[00:02:16.727]accounting, actuarial science, to use real data
[00:02:20.301]and to make decisions in real time.
[00:02:22.701]We are so grateful to Nebraska athletics
[00:02:25.460]for helping us with this unique student experience.
[00:02:31.533]Our faculty in the Center for Sales Excellence
[00:02:34.739]teach students the art of selling through pitching ideas
[00:02:38.458]and sharpening their communication skills.
[00:02:41.146]Equipped with cutting edge video equipment,
[00:02:43.833]students are able to see how they sell
[00:02:46.711]when engaging in role playing assignments.
[00:02:49.523]I get to record myself in here,
[00:02:51.498]and be able to go back and really critique myself
[00:02:54.392]and see what I'm good at and what I need
[00:02:56.334]to work on in a relaxed sales situation.
[00:03:00.371]As you can see, the new building
[00:03:01.955]is already providing both inspiration and excitement.
[00:03:05.664]It also offers new opportunities
[00:03:07.677]for a more cohesive community.
[00:03:10.173]Together, we have built this world class building,
[00:03:14.180]we appreciate your support as we continue
[00:03:16.507]to make this a world class college.
