[00:00:05.805]a certificate for civic engagement,
[00:00:07.965]the first thing you need to do
[00:00:09.064]is attend an orientation session.
[00:00:11.704]You can find the dates on our website

[00:00:15.848]At the orientation, you'll learn about civic value one
[00:00:19.155]and apply for the program.
[00:00:21.489]If accepted, you will complete a project or an activity
[00:00:24.710]for each of the six civic values.
[00:00:26.632]The six civic values are civic identity and commitment,
[00:00:30.872]leadership within civic contexts,
[00:00:33.873]diversity of communities and culture,
[00:00:36.643]civic communication,
[00:00:38.232]analysis of knowledge
[00:00:40.035]and action within civic contexts.
[00:00:42.308]Each value has different learning outcomes.
[00:00:45.576]Within each value, you will come up with mission statements
[00:00:48.552]and action plans with your coach assigned to you.
[00:00:52.442]Once you've made your action plan
[00:00:54.470]and discussed it with your coach,
[00:00:55.613]you'll start looking into ways
[00:00:56.936]to hold yourself accountable to your goals.
[00:00:59.096]For some students, this can be keeping journals
[00:01:01.373]but for others this is discussions with your coach,
[00:01:03.895]meeting logs and photography, among other things.
[00:01:07.033]Once you've finished your checklist for each value,
[00:01:10.536]you will discuss it with your coach
[00:01:12.616]and then you will be able to move on
[00:01:13.773]to your next civic value.
[00:01:14.973]Alongside with completing your civic values,
[00:01:17.597]you will be completing 12 hours
[00:01:19.656]of certificate for civic engagement courses.
[00:01:22.595]Three will be at the 100 or 200 level
[00:01:25.677]and nine will be at the 300 or 400 level.
[00:01:28.813]There are many courses that qualify
[00:01:31.075]or could be approved
[00:01:32.170]for the certificate for civic engagement
[00:01:34.616]so it's easy find one that could apply.
[00:01:36.653]These courses can overlap
[00:01:38.077]with the courses that you are already taking
[00:01:39.933]for your major or minor.
[00:01:41.597]Once you've completed all six values and the courses,
[00:01:45.293]you will receive the certificate.
