- [00:00:10.400](horse neighs)
- [00:00:11.300]There's a lot of different horse feeds out there
- [00:00:12.960]and it's very important that a horse owner make
- [00:00:15.040]the best decision about what the best feed
- [00:00:16.860]is for their horse.
- [00:00:17.930]If you become knowledgeable about how to read the feed tag
- [00:00:20.540]and also the feed bag,
- [00:00:22.030]it will really help you make the most educated decision
- [00:00:24.390]for what's best for your horse.
- [00:00:25.900]So first if you wanna look at the feed bag,
- [00:00:28.260]as we have this.
- [00:00:29.510]There are certain things that are required by law
- [00:00:31.650]and certain things that the manufacturer would choose
- [00:00:33.650]to put on the feed bag and also the feed tag.
- [00:00:36.480]Naturally you need to have the name of the feed.
- [00:00:38.850]And this one has kind of an illustration or picture to help
- [00:00:42.531]tell you a little bit more of the story
- [00:00:44.380]about what this horse's feed is.
- [00:00:46.620]In addition, it will have also that
- [00:00:48.750]this is the type of feed that it is.
- [00:00:50.270]So this is a textured feed
- [00:00:51.940]and also with the weight of the bag is.
- [00:00:54.570]And those are also required by the law.
- [00:00:56.792]On this bag, some of the information
- [00:00:59.182]that as far as just on the bag that is given to you
- [00:01:01.726]by the manufacturer,
- [00:01:02.725]is a little bit more of the information about kind of
- [00:01:05.101]what the feed is designed for.
- [00:01:06.981]Some of the promotional information of what the purpose
- [00:01:09.649]of it is and some of the different features
- [00:01:11.536]of this particular feed.
- [00:01:13.775]Now for most feeds, the actual feed tag
- [00:01:16.654]will be attached to the bag alright?
- [00:01:19.175]And so for the feed tags,
- [00:01:21.324]there is some much of the information
- [00:01:22.855]on the actual tag is what is required by law.
- [00:01:26.020]There will be the name of the feed.
- [00:01:27.860]There will be the purpose and the class of horses
- [00:01:30.280]that it's intended for
- [00:01:31.450]which is some of this information here okay.
- [00:01:34.240]There will also be the feeding guidelines that tells you
- [00:01:37.290]what for the different class of horses
- [00:01:39.390]how much of this feed depend on the weight of those horses
- [00:01:42.180]should be fed to 'em.
- [00:01:43.540]Some of the most important information is
- [00:01:45.480]the guaranteed analysis which is over here,
- [00:01:47.860]which will list the amount of
- [00:01:49.357]protein, fat, fiber, various minerals, various vitamins
- [00:01:53.607]that is are in the feed.
- [00:01:56.140]They're not gonna to be listed in exact amounts.
- [00:01:58.260]They will usually be listed either as a minimum
- [00:02:00.240]or a maximum,
- [00:02:01.220]depend on what that ingredient actually is.
- [00:02:03.500]Some feed tags will give you a bit more information
- [00:02:05.970]as far as a longer list of some of the
- [00:02:08.410]the minerals and vitamins.
- [00:02:10.230]And some will give you just the minimum that are required.
- [00:02:12.900]Another important feature that is required by law
- [00:02:15.600]is the ingredient list.
- [00:02:17.280]An ingredient list can be either
- [00:02:18.870]group ingredients or specified ingredients.
- [00:02:21.840]And they are always listed in the amount
- [00:02:24.185]the quantities in descending order.
- [00:02:26.390]So the ingredients that are listed first
- [00:02:29.880]are what are going to be in that feed the largest quantities
- [00:02:32.430]and on down from there.
- [00:02:33.870]For example, this one, the most that's in this
- [00:02:36.240]particular feed is going to be dehydrated alfalfa meal.
- [00:02:39.590]Followed by rice bran.
- [00:02:41.240]Also required on the feed tag,
- [00:02:43.210]is going to be who the manufacturer is
- [00:02:44.971]and contact information for the manufacturer
- [00:02:47.581]in case you should need to contact them if case,
- [00:02:50.570]in the case that there was a issue with that
- [00:02:52.250]particular feed.
- [00:02:55.530]This particular feed tag would have a backside to it.
- [00:02:58.350]And also in this, it has a little bit more of the same
- [00:02:59.863]information that is on the actual bag.
- [00:03:02.630]As far as the purpose of the feed,
- [00:03:04.240]this where they would have the different class of horses
- [00:03:06.062]and also some more of the information
- [00:03:08.060]about that particular feed.
- [00:03:10.420]So hopefully, this will give you a better information
- [00:03:13.000]and guidelines as far as how to look for,
- [00:03:14.951]look at the different horse feeds available.
- [00:03:17.220]And make the best choice for which one
- [00:03:18.920]is gonna suit your purposes.
