- [00:00:07.816]I'll be up at three in the morning at night
- [00:00:10.812]and wake up at six to finish up flowers for weddings
- [00:00:14.733]or just getting flowers put together for banquets.
- [00:00:19.883]I invest a lot of time just because
- [00:00:21.411]the people are worth it.
- [00:00:22.701]Getting to transform
- [00:00:25.890]some part of nature
- [00:00:27.595]into something beautiful and usable
- [00:00:29.817]for other people is just amazing.
- [00:00:40.000]I'm Jacqueline Nelson,
- [00:00:41.147]owner of Blevior Floral and Event Design.
- [00:00:44.069]My floral business creates custom works of art
- [00:00:46.354]for people's weddings, or people who have lost
- [00:00:48.778]a family member that reflects and honors
- [00:00:51.133]their personality or different corporate events,
- [00:00:54.001]for Christmas parties or birthday parties.
- [00:00:57.505]My goal is to transform your event.
- [00:00:59.668](bright instrumental music)
- [00:01:06.669]My eighth grade year, I saw prom corsages being delivered
- [00:01:10.119]to the school made by one of the girls
- [00:01:12.372]who was a senior in high school.
- [00:01:14.892]And I saw them and I was well, I can do that.
- [00:01:17.777]I could probably recreate that
- [00:01:20.168]and maybe make a little bit of money
- [00:01:21.915]and it will be fun.
- [00:01:23.184]So that's how I got started my freshman year
- [00:01:25.751]of high school.
- [00:01:26.584]I sold two corsages and that just began
- [00:01:29.586]a little hobby career in high school.
- [00:01:32.492]By the end of high school I ended up
- [00:01:34.091]selling to six different schools
- [00:01:37.212]and I realized that I could turn my hobby
- [00:01:38.751]into a career.
- [00:01:40.331](bright instrumental music)
- [00:01:45.133]People hire me because they know
- [00:01:47.129]that I'm going to reflect their personality.
- [00:01:51.576]It's not about me, it's about my client.
- [00:01:55.314](bright instrumental music)
- [00:02:02.775]The process of just working with people.
- [00:02:04.614]First, my client reaches out to me
- [00:02:06.848]and I just schedule an appointment with them,
- [00:02:08.578]face-to-face whether it's through Skype or Facetime
- [00:02:10.890]or sitting down at a coffee shop.
- [00:02:14.714]During our discussion, we start building a relationship,
- [00:02:17.037]just learning about that client's personality,
- [00:02:21.029]and their interests and likes and dislikes
- [00:02:24.502]and what they're expecting from me
- [00:02:27.427]so that I can begin processing through
- [00:02:30.886]what is going to happen and what it looks like.
- [00:02:34.121]You know, how many flowers I need,
- [00:02:36.566]what the cost will be, and I build a price quote.
- [00:02:39.970]And then after I sign on the client,
- [00:02:42.778]begins the building process and the preparations.
- [00:02:46.477]So, ordering and finding the different props
- [00:02:50.080]and tools that I'm going to need
- [00:02:51.592]to accomplish their event and then moving forward
- [00:02:56.161]with the building and arranging and designing
- [00:03:00.011]of the project.
- [00:03:02.446]Then comes delivery.
- [00:03:03.657]On delivery day it all just looks different
- [00:03:06.771]for each client.
- [00:03:08.030]I love to turn raw products into something beautiful,
- [00:03:11.492]it reflects a client's personality.
- [00:03:14.868]The work I do is for other people.
- [00:03:18.220]So when I get to see their faces light up
- [00:03:21.040]and then be excited over what's happening,
- [00:03:24.351]that's what brings me joy and that's what drives me
- [00:03:26.577]to do what I do every day.
- [00:03:31.754]I chose flowers for my medium of art
- [00:03:33.496]because it's nature.
- [00:03:35.495]We're living in a technological world,
- [00:03:39.064]so turning nature into something usable
- [00:03:42.164]and beautiful, is just amazing.
- [00:03:46.631]So flowers go through this process
- [00:03:49.201]of once they're cut, flowers are dying
- [00:03:51.817]and it's now, it's my job to preserve that flower
- [00:03:55.292]to last as long as it can
- [00:03:57.592]and still be gorgeous.
- [00:04:03.263]Over the past three years of college,
- [00:04:04.880]I've been, started off as kind of
- [00:04:06.956]I don't know, just another person in the crowd
- [00:04:09.987]and then transforming from a person in the crowd
- [00:04:13.286]to be able to --
- [00:04:14.905]Well, it took time and I had to prove myself
- [00:04:17.587]that I was worth investing in over the years.
- [00:04:21.054]But just having people who believe in me
- [00:04:23.437]made a world of difference.
- [00:04:25.839]Not everybody gets to leave college their own boss
- [00:04:29.522]and picking your own schedule.
- [00:04:31.312]So that's something I'm very lucky and blessed to have.
- [00:04:35.913](bright instrumental music)
