[00:00:06.273]to have a graduate teaching assistantship right away.
[00:00:09.837]I held the teaching assistantship for four years
[00:00:12.120]and now I'm a research assistantship.
[00:00:13.912]My main research area is motivation
[00:00:16.960]and self-regulated learning,
[00:00:18.754]so I'm involved in a project where we look at
[00:00:21.037]computer science students' motivation
[00:00:23.128]in their computer science courses,
[00:00:25.091]and then as my dissertation work,
[00:00:26.797]I'm looking at metacognition specifically
[00:00:29.411]within the self-regulated learning framework.
[00:00:31.875]My coursework in general has been very helpful
[00:00:34.712]in preparing me for the work I wanna do,
[00:00:36.483]but I've also been able to work
[00:00:38.850]with a couple different faculty members
[00:00:40.749]who have been excellent mentors for me, as well.
[00:00:43.267]I am incredibly interested and passionate
[00:00:46.061]about the things that I'm studying.
[00:00:48.195]I do really think we're doing valuable work
[00:00:50.733]that has the potential to make a difference
[00:00:53.571]for students in the future,
[00:00:55.006]but I also really enjoy the people
[00:00:56.429]that I get to interact with on a daily basis
[00:00:58.755]as far as my professors, other students,
[00:01:00.952]and I think we have some really great people here
[00:01:02.808]that make things just a little bit more fun.
[00:01:06.136]Lincoln is a fantastic city
[00:01:07.715]just across the board in my opinion.
[00:01:10.061]We have many activities as far as music
[00:01:14.015]and theater and other cultural events.
[00:01:16.941]I think our department, particularly the DLS program,
[00:01:20.141]does an excellent job of preparing students to be successful
[00:01:24.600]in whatever career they prepare for in the future.
