[00:00:06.579]and I am pre-law, political science major
[00:00:09.117]and also communications studies.
[00:00:11.453]We really want to establish a relationship of UNL hockey.
[00:00:14.697]I am the president of our new UNL women's hockey club team,
[00:00:17.901]and I came out to Nebraska,
[00:00:20.637]we didn't have a team,
[00:00:22.280]so immediately I started trying to organize this,
[00:00:25.339]and then two years later,
[00:00:27.139]now we're going to have a full team, a full schedule,
[00:00:29.400]so it's definitely getting off the ground now.
[00:00:33.437]I'm from Hackettstown, New Jersey,
[00:00:35.834]and I chose to go to school at Nebraska
[00:00:38.579]because I came out and loved the environment.
[00:00:41.354]I was really nervous coming out,
[00:00:43.935]but I learned a learning community my first year,
[00:00:47.197]so I think that really helped make friends
[00:00:49.240]with people that were interested in the same thing as me.
[00:00:52.297]My advice to a student if they want
[00:00:54.877]to get involved here at Nebraska
[00:00:56.701]is just to keep an open mind about
[00:00:58.637]the different opportunities that you do hear about.

[00:01:03.698]really far outside of my comfort zone
[00:01:05.316]with a lot of the things that I've gotten involved in.

[00:01:09.400]Right now we are in CB3,
[00:01:11.277]the center for brain biology and behavior.
[00:01:14.157]Here I work on the political attitudes and cognition lab
[00:01:16.701]with Dr. Ingrid Haas.
[00:01:19.277]All of the undergraduates this semester
[00:01:22.360]got to come down here and go through an MRI training,
[00:01:25.848]and we got to learn how to work the MRI
[00:01:28.301]and all the different MRI safety components
[00:01:30.840]that go with using this machine.
[00:01:34.596]I am a volunteer with Friends of Refugees,
[00:01:37.639]so my roommate and I, we go once a week at least
[00:01:40.520]to a family that has come here from Iraq.
[00:01:44.680]We practice English with them,
[00:01:46.695]it's been very fulfilling and rewarding.

[00:01:52.176]I do have season tickets even though
[00:01:53.776]I have never been a football fan,
[00:01:55.276]and am just learning the rules to football,
[00:01:57.696]but just the environment and seeing everybody
[00:01:59.376]in the state wearing red that day,
[00:02:02.155]and just being excited and all that school pride
[00:02:05.819]is something that I think is really cool to be a part of.
[00:02:10.204]I would definitely say college is about
[00:02:12.091]trying to find who you are,
[00:02:13.531]and I have been able to do that at Nebraska
[00:02:15.792]through all these different opportunities.
