- [00:00:00.254]Hi, thank you, Ben.
- [00:00:01.087]Delighted to be joined now
- [00:00:01.920]by University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Chancellor Ronnie Green,
- [00:00:04.414]is Oscar's,
- [00:00:05.939]Last weekend the university
- [00:00:06.915]had its big commencement ceremony,
- [00:00:09.773]I know that's one of your favorite times of the year,
- [00:00:11.903]and it was quite an event.
- [00:00:13.096]What can you tell us about this year's graduation events?
- [00:00:16.013]Well, you know that my favorite,
- [00:00:17.305]absolute favorite thing in the year
- [00:00:19.408]is when we graduate students from the university.
- [00:00:21.644]Close is when students start,
- [00:00:23.531]but the most exciting is when they graduate,
- [00:00:26.506]and you see the whole world out in front of them.
- [00:00:30.195]Couldn't be more proud at this point,
- [00:00:34.032]and our state's land-grant University
- [00:00:35.904]and what we're doing to prepare that workforce
- [00:00:38.295]out there ahead of us.
- [00:00:40.970]And so the graduation's a special moment,
- [00:00:42.488]there's just nowhere around it.
- [00:00:44.311]As someone who was the first in my family
- [00:00:47.700]to attain a college degree,
- [00:00:49.610]or to have that opportunity to receive a college degree,
- [00:00:52.950]it's just a special moment for me
- [00:00:55.204]every time I see that happen.
- [00:00:58.402]So we've just come off of graduating 3100,
- [00:01:02.600]in our graduating class this spring,
- [00:01:04.922]so we were great to see,
- [00:01:06.326]it was great to see their families around commencement,
- [00:01:08.967]and to celebrate that achievement.
- [00:01:11.628]We're gonna continue to need more talent in this state.
- [00:01:16.428]And the graduates that we're producing,
- [00:01:18.353]that come to us from across Nebraska,
- [00:01:20.499]come to us from outside the state of Nebraska,
- [00:01:22.941]around the country and internationally,
- [00:01:26.649]they come here looking for a big 10 education,
- [00:01:29.906]they get a very distinctive high-quality education here,
- [00:01:32.908]they make connections here
- [00:01:34.314]that will last a lifetime for them.
- [00:01:37.507]And that's part of the reason
- [00:01:38.915]that we see our university growing,
- [00:01:40.612]is the increased perception and awareness
- [00:01:43.782]of the quality of that education
- [00:01:45.617]that they're able to receive here,
- [00:01:47.598]and in turn, our ability to help grow the state,
- [00:01:50.832]through those graduates of the university as well.
- [00:01:53.812]I'm sure a lot of the folks in our audience heard this,
- [00:01:56.123]but you had a high-profile speaker
- [00:01:58.653]to talk to the undergraduates at the ceremony,
- [00:02:01.290]from the internet social media world.
- [00:02:02.881]And this speaker, with Nebraska ties,
- [00:02:04.347]that even made it better.
- [00:02:05.383]Yeah, it was kind of a cool deal,
- [00:02:07.240]because I like to read a lot up on news now
- [00:02:10.529]and follow the world on Twitter.
- [00:02:12.566]And our speaker was one of the co-founders of Twitter
- [00:02:17.266]when Evan Williams came,
- [00:02:18.739]and was part of our commencement ceremony,
- [00:02:21.358]delivered the commencement address,
- [00:02:23.240]received an honorary doctorate degree from the university.
- [00:02:26.874]Evan's one of the 100 most influential people in the world,
- [00:02:31.972]as Time Magazine's list here recently.
- [00:02:35.750]He's kind of a cool deal.
- [00:02:37.584]He got his honorary doctorate degree,
- [00:02:39.505]grew up in Clarks, Nebraska, Northeast Nebraska.
- [00:02:43.352]And we had a graduate from Clarks, Nebraska,
- [00:02:46.029]receive her Bachelor of Arts degree,
- [00:02:48.028]and the Lincoln is part of the commencement ceremony,
- [00:02:51.203]so that was kind of a special moment there as well.
- [00:02:55.756]And in fact, the commencement address that Evan gave,
- [00:03:00.738]talked to graduates
- [00:03:02.685]from more than 250 locales around the state of Nebraska,
- [00:03:06.742]42 different states represented
- [00:03:08.513]in our graduates in this class,
- [00:03:10.145]52 countries around the world.
- [00:03:13.347]So this global reaching land-grant university here
- [00:03:17.571]that we're so proud to be part of,
- [00:03:19.333]is having impact all over the world.
- [00:03:21.647]It's a moment in the ceremony they will all remember
- [00:03:23.478]for the rest of their lives.
- [00:03:24.638]Congratulations on another successful school year,
- [00:03:27.379]and I look forward to seeing you again down the road.
- [00:03:29.588]And go Big Red.
- [00:03:31.238]And agreeing with us here on our pre-game show.
- [00:03:32.972]Back with our first pitch, coming up next,
- [00:03:34.597]from IMG College.
- [00:03:35.466]This is the Husker Sports Network.
