- [00:00:00.304]Well, we are thrilled to have with us here tonight
- [00:00:03.002]University of Nebraska Lincoln chancellor,
- [00:00:04.548]Ronnie Green.
- [00:00:05.381]Cannot believe, chancellor, that we're hitting the
- [00:00:07.625]home stretch of the spring semester,
- [00:00:09.197]commencement coming up the first weekend in May.
- [00:00:11.995]It's been a busy semester for you in the
- [00:00:13.567]Universities newest campuses.
- [00:00:15.274]Well, Nebraska Innovation Campus, you've got some
- [00:00:18.171]new partnerships there.
- [00:00:19.024]What can you tell us?
- [00:00:20.078]Well, you know Greg, we're pretty excited
- [00:00:21.693]about Innovation Campuses development.
- [00:00:24.002]We stood up our first phase of Innovation Campus now
- [00:00:26.969]a couple of years ago, going on a couple of years ago.
- [00:00:29.877]This fall we'll have been in residence out there
- [00:00:32.889]for now two years.
- [00:00:34.702]Very excited about 20 partners that we currently
- [00:00:37.609]have on the campus, just have added a couple of new
- [00:00:41.029]ones here in the last month.
- [00:00:45.034]We just announced Adjuvant Technology so we'll move
- [00:00:48.694]into the Biotech Connector space that's at
- [00:00:51.974]Innovation Campus that's a partnership between
- [00:00:54.136]Bio Nebraska, the trade organization for bio sciences
- [00:00:59.036]in the state and the University and the Economic
- [00:01:02.019]Development Authority that's building out space
- [00:01:04.226]for new startups in the bio science area.
- [00:01:06.805]So we're very excited about Adjuvant.
- [00:01:08.735]They're a company that's empowering health through
- [00:01:12.176]fundamental breakthroughs in design and manufacturing
- [00:01:14.805]of critical components that are part of vaccines.
- [00:01:18.901]So they're in vaccine development to help fight disease.
- [00:01:24.513]That biotech connector is the new home for them,
- [00:01:28.935]I'm excited about what they're going to be bringing
- [00:01:30.926]to the table.
- [00:01:32.091]Tyler Martin, who is a Nebraska native,
- [00:01:34.438]is the CEO of Adjuvant, he's a native of Hebron
- [00:01:38.073]over in Thayer County.
- [00:01:40.825]He's a Silicon Valley veteran in California.
- [00:01:44.585]So it's a wonderful example of a Nebraska native
- [00:01:47.087]coming back and starting business here in the state
- [00:01:50.877]and what we think will be an outstanding example
- [00:01:53.704]of this new biotech connector space that we're
- [00:01:56.966]excited to have at the Innovation Campus.
- [00:01:59.137]It's very exciting to hear this updates on
- [00:02:01.063]Innovation Campus and you announced a new partnership
- [00:02:03.494]in the month of February, as well, right?
- [00:02:05.311]We did.
- [00:02:06.668]Bolero Information Systems is the other partner
- [00:02:09.339]that we just recently announced.
- [00:02:11.145]It's a spin off company that started by several of
- [00:02:13.305]our staff here at the university.
- [00:02:15.796]Where they're specializing in research administration
- [00:02:19.196]and business process automation and they'll work
- [00:02:22.526]with us continuing to do work with UNL,
- [00:02:26.037]but also will be working with UNO and with UNK,
- [00:02:29.289]our sister campuses across the university system.
- [00:02:34.071]And, for them, going out to NIC, to the Nebraska
- [00:02:37.036]Innovation Campus, it's giving them the ability to
- [00:02:40.098]expand and enhance their product to sell to additional
- [00:02:43.599]customers beyond our own university system,
- [00:02:46.977]generating economic development in the state
- [00:02:49.868]and bringing that revenue to the state.
- [00:02:51.815]And helping us along the way too, obviously,
- [00:02:55.216]as a partner with the university.
- [00:02:57.483]So excited about Bolero and Adjuvant and these
- [00:03:00.697]new partnerships that they're bringing together
- [00:03:03.240]with the other 20 partners that we already have
- [00:03:05.591]on the campus.
- [00:03:08.005]Very exciting, we're busy at the
- [00:03:08.978]University of Nebraska Lincoln chancellor,
- [00:03:10.576]Ronnie Green, here on sports (mumbles) on the Huskers
- [00:03:12.497]sports network.
- [00:03:13.456]A key to innovation is getting all the great minds at,
- [00:03:16.100]you called it NIC, talking about bringing them
- [00:03:18.603]together over food, right?
- [00:03:20.596]You've recently announced the first restaurant
- [00:03:22.481]located at Innovation Campus, what can you tell us?
- [00:03:24.857]Yeah, so we now have well over 300 employees.
- [00:03:27.766]So our part of partners, part of the university,
- [00:03:30.734]our food science department is located also
- [00:03:32.973]at Innovation Campus, the maker space that is part
- [00:03:36.063]of that campus, the new conference center that's been
- [00:03:38.773]in operation the last three or four years and has had
- [00:03:41.134]so much success.
- [00:03:42.321]So there's a buzz of people now and a community
- [00:03:45.259]at Innovation Campus and we're very excited that
- [00:03:49.269]we'll have a Lincoln establishment,
- [00:03:51.290]a very well known Lincoln establishment, The Mill,
- [00:03:54.630]that will become the first restaurant location
- [00:03:58.217]on the Innovation Campus for the community out there.
- [00:04:03.578]Daniel and Tamara Slone, the owners of The Mill,
- [00:04:06.815]well known business people here in Lincoln and
- [00:04:09.847](mumbles) of their business down in the hay market
- [00:04:12.133]for a long time are bringing in a coffee and a bistro
- [00:04:15.447]concept to the Innovation Commons part of
- [00:04:19.117]Innovation Campus, directly across the courtyard
- [00:04:21.912]from the conference center, the former 4H facility.
- [00:04:26.055]They'll be on the first floor there of that facility
- [00:04:28.860]and will kind of become a hub, if you will,
- [00:04:31.627]for innovation to happen amongst the partners
- [00:04:35.231]that are out there on the campus and the ones
- [00:04:37.536]that we'll see come in the future.
- [00:04:38.846]So exciting developments out on Innovation Campus
- [00:04:41.611]as we now move into phase two.
- [00:04:43.735]Was just announced, the first building in phase two
- [00:04:47.340]was in some of our press here in Lincoln
- [00:04:49.433]just in the last couple of weeks.
- [00:04:51.794]So groundbreaking for that building also happened
- [00:04:53.353]in with our partners at (mumbles).
- [00:04:55.236]Very exciting, we certainly appreciate
- [00:04:56.368]the updates that you give us from time to time
- [00:04:58.457]and looking for the continued growth at Innovation Campus.
- [00:05:01.097]Always great to see you.
- [00:05:02.120]Good to see you, Greg.
- [00:05:03.360]Ronnie Green, University of Nebraska Lincoln
- [00:05:05.322]chancellor with us here on sports.
