- [00:00:00.252]Alright, thank you, Ben.
- [00:00:01.085]Delighted to be joined now
- [00:00:02.111]by University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor, Ronnie Green.
- [00:00:04.368]Big week for Mr. Green as he will be formally installed
- [00:00:07.815]as chancellor on Thursday.
- [00:00:09.757]Obviously, looking forward to this.
- [00:00:11.117]Congratulations on all this and I know this
- [00:00:14.384]is a huge, huge thing.
- [00:00:16.560]What does this mean to you?
- [00:00:18.111]Well, you know, obviously, I've been serving
- [00:00:19.824]in the role since last May, so almost a year
- [00:00:22.495]into the role.
- [00:00:23.602]In fact, when the installation happens on Thursday,
- [00:00:27.275]it will be just a year and a day after the announcement
- [00:00:30.672]that was made last April 5th of the appointment
- [00:00:33.972]as chancellor.
- [00:00:34.878]But this is kind of a big formal event for the university.
- [00:00:38.576]It's a historic kind of moment for the university.
- [00:00:42.069]There's only been 20 chancellors, including me,
- [00:00:45.273]who have had the opportunity to serve the university
- [00:00:47.772]in the last 148 years in this role.
- [00:00:50.804]So it's a formal kind of step for the campus.
- [00:00:56.701]Last time we did this was a long time ago.
- [00:00:59.669]It was 16 years ago, in 2001, when Chancellor Perlman
- [00:01:03.933]was installed.
- [00:01:05.855]To be on the same stage at the same podium
- [00:01:07.989]that he was at at the point in time.
- [00:01:11.347]And, of course, that was a pretty interesting time
- [00:01:13.281]in our history.
- [00:01:14.129]This is a pretty interesting time in our history.
- [00:01:17.705]Really looking forward to the event on Thursday
- [00:01:20.953]and the opportunity to celebrate with the campus
- [00:01:23.916]and our greater community, this installation.
- [00:01:26.640]I know you're well aware of the special relationship
- [00:01:29.635]that the people of this state have with this university
- [00:01:32.277]and I know your remarks that you're going to make
- [00:01:34.609]are going to kind of tie into that a little bit.
- [00:01:37.343]What can you share with us what you're going to say?
- [00:01:39.139]Well, sure.
- [00:01:40.595]It's the theme of the installation that is going
- [00:01:43.465]to reflect that the University of Nebraska-Lincoln
- [00:01:46.616]is the people's university of the state of Nebraska.
- [00:01:50.112]We reformed here as the flagship land-grant university
- [00:01:53.760]148 years ago.
- [00:01:56.364]We still hold that mission today and we take that--
- [00:02:02.778]You know, the words that mean people's university
- [00:02:04.794]very seriously.
- [00:02:06.226]The teaching and the research and the service
- [00:02:08.421]that we do through the university continues
- [00:02:11.967]to be ever more important today than it was
- [00:02:14.585]in 1871 when we got started.
- [00:02:18.230]So we're excited about that.
- [00:02:20.295]I'll talk about how I think, currently,
- [00:02:23.588]the era that we're in; that higher ed
- [00:02:26.009]and especially public higher ed is going to be
- [00:02:28.837]ever more important in the future.
- [00:02:31.053]That we have to be bold.
- [00:02:33.041]We have to be audacious, engaged, accessible,
- [00:02:36.197]and a real vibrant people's university
- [00:02:38.320]for our state to solve the problems that we have ahead
- [00:02:41.691]and be the engine and the workforce development
- [00:02:44.711]for our state in this twenty-first century and beyond.
- [00:02:49.338]So exciting to relay that message and to think out
- [00:02:52.779]into the future of the era that we have ahead of us.
- [00:02:57.143]As I say, it's kind of a chance for the campus
- [00:02:59.513]to come together to celebrate the university in itself
- [00:03:03.747]and through this installation of a chancellor
- [00:03:06.577]at this point in our time.
- [00:03:09.027]Very excited about that.
- [00:03:10.513]Congratulations.
- [00:03:11.456]We'll look forward to those remarks.
- [00:03:13.760]Looking forward to it being over and to being--
- [00:03:17.451]I guess the joking part of it would be, I guess,
- [00:03:21.628]after Thursday I won't be able to bolt
- [00:03:23.352]and run the other way.
- [00:03:24.310]I'll be fully engaged as the installed chancellor
- [00:03:27.779]of the university.
- [00:03:28.612]That's great.
- [00:03:29.445]Thank you very much.
- [00:03:30.278]We'll be back with the first pitch of
- [00:03:31.273]the Husker's game with the Creighton Bluejays
- [00:03:32.458]coming up next.
- [00:03:33.611]From IMG College, this is the Huskers Sports Network.
