- [00:00:00.285](gentle percussion music)
- [00:00:02.569]Greg Sharpe, welcome you back
- [00:00:03.508]inside our Husker Sports Network studio.
- [00:00:05.317]It's halftime of the Huskers game
- [00:00:06.466]against the Iowa Hawkeyes,
- [00:00:07.883]and we're delighted to be joined
- [00:00:08.729]by University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Ronnie Green.
- [00:00:12.005]The spring semester, it is here.
- [00:00:13.658]Begins on Monday, but this week chancellor,
- [00:00:15.924]the university kicked off some education
- [00:00:18.090]opportunities across the state.
- [00:00:19.662]Of course, a lot of folks know about
- [00:00:21.283]how you're teaching on campus,
- [00:00:22.522]but what can you tell us about
- [00:00:23.801]extending that effort throughout the state?
- [00:00:26.073]Well, we certainly are real excited
- [00:00:27.385]about the students coming back into town
- [00:00:29.243]here over the next few days.
- [00:00:30.740]They start classes on campus on Monday morning.
- [00:00:33.157]So excited about classroom instruction,
- [00:00:35.287]but we have a tri-partite mission
- [00:00:37.595]at the University of Nebraska
- [00:00:38.977]as a land grant university,
- [00:00:40.497]teaching of students on campus,
- [00:00:42.390]research work that we do
- [00:00:43.857]through our research and scholarship,
- [00:00:45.482]and then extending that education
- [00:00:47.236]out across the state through extension.
- [00:00:49.957]So we think of ourselves as a statewide campus
- [00:00:53.814]through those efforts in extension,
- [00:00:55.904]located in all 93 counties across the state of Nebraska.
- [00:00:59.742]This month, our Nebraska Extension team
- [00:01:01.955]is focusing on leading a series
- [00:01:03.698]of crop production clinics across the state,
- [00:01:06.307]where they provide insight into high impact
- [00:01:09.593]crop production research for important crops in our state.
- [00:01:13.753]Yesterday and today, those clinics
- [00:01:15.883]were in Gering and North Platte,
- [00:01:17.573]and tomorrow they will continue in York
- [00:01:19.349]and the south central part of the state.
- [00:01:21.688]And later this month, they'll be spread
- [00:01:23.385]to Beatrice, Hastings, Mead, Atkinson, and Norfolk.
- [00:01:27.473]A lot of information about these crop production clinics.
- [00:01:30.029]They're kind of an annual thing with Nebraska Extension,
- [00:01:32.593]is available, registration information available online.
- [00:01:37.083]If you just do a web search
- [00:01:38.456]and enter University of Nebraska Crop Clinic,
- [00:01:42.079]it should get you there and give you
- [00:01:43.263]all the information about how to tap in
- [00:01:45.619]to this extension network across the state.
- [00:01:48.244]And these clinics all lead up
- [00:01:49.466]to a statewide crop management conference
- [00:01:51.980]that's coming up in Kearney,
- [00:01:53.414]here closer to the end of month, is that right?
- [00:01:54.927]That's right.
- [00:01:56.228]January 19th and 20th in Kearney
- [00:01:58.650]at the Younes Conference Center there in Kearney,
- [00:02:00.951]just off of Interstate 80.
- [00:02:03.357]Experts from our own Nebraska Extension effort,
- [00:02:06.975]as well as regional states in this part of the country,
- [00:02:10.072]provide research-based information
- [00:02:11.642]on crop production and soil and water management,
- [00:02:13.681]and pest management, ag-econ, and marketing efforts,
- [00:02:17.326]and climate analysis, and what impact
- [00:02:19.152]that is having on crop production
- [00:02:22.043]in the state and the region.
- [00:02:23.672]Some of the featured speakers will include Chuck Schroeder,
- [00:02:26.140]who is Executive Director
- [00:02:27.345]of the University of Nebraska Rural Futures Institute,
- [00:02:30.668]located here on the Lincoln campus,
- [00:02:33.988]as well as faculty from our partners in the Big Ten,
- [00:02:37.353]at Purdue and at the University of Minnesota,
- [00:02:40.178]and also out west from our partners
- [00:02:41.935]at the University of Wyoming.
- [00:02:44.249]Expecting a big turnout, as we annually get,
- [00:02:47.178]for this annual conference.
- [00:02:48.883]And I think that there will be a lot of very good
- [00:02:51.122]information for our producers and stakeholders
- [00:02:53.893]out in the state to gain from the efforts.
- [00:02:57.934]So we're looking forward to a great effort there
- [00:02:59.854]in Kearney on January 19th and 20th.
- [00:03:02.264]Thank you for the update on that.
- [00:03:03.275]Great way to get the year started.
- [00:03:04.994]Appreciate the update of that, thank you.
- [00:03:06.605]You bet, and good luck to our Huskers tonight
- [00:03:09.191]in the rest of the game as we go against Iowa.
- [00:03:11.212]Go Big Red.
- [00:03:12.045]Keep going after those Hawkeyes.
- [00:03:13.119]Kent Pavelka and Matt Davison back
- [00:03:14.762]with some second half action, coming up next.
