- [00:00:02.209]Welcome back to halftime.
- [00:00:03.364]Matt Coatney with you.
- [00:00:04.447]Huskers and Maryland
- [00:00:05.859]and we're pleased to be joined again
- [00:00:07.810]by Chancelor Ronnie Green.
- [00:00:09.607]And, Chancelor, the University of Nebraska Lincoln
- [00:00:11.946]is obviously known for it's strength
- [00:00:13.612]and early childhood development.
- [00:00:15.563]We heard last month that Nebraska is leading
- [00:00:17.452]a national effort to improve services for children, too.
- [00:00:20.829]How is Nebraska taking this leadership role?
- [00:00:23.043]Well, Matt, you know,
- [00:00:24.329]we do have a long history of leadership
- [00:00:26.944]and early childhood education
- [00:00:28.622]especially in development as well as
- [00:00:32.003]the most recent grand announcement
- [00:00:34.006]that we're really excited to make
- [00:00:35.834]just before the holidays
- [00:00:37.358]is one that has to do with more, you know,
- [00:00:39.796]services for children. Uh, it was announced
- [00:00:42.973]that we're leading a research effort
- [00:00:44.792]to improve the lives of children
- [00:00:47.334]and families who may need it the most.
- [00:00:50.622]Very proud that it's part of our center
- [00:00:53.421]for children, families, and the law
- [00:00:55.325]that's a joint effort of our College of arts and sciences,
- [00:00:57.926]College of education and human sciences,
- [00:00:59.908]and College of law.
- [00:01:01.777]Michelle Graff and her team
- [00:01:05.014]have been tapped to lead this effort
- [00:01:07.150]and studying and testing the best strategies
- [00:01:08.888]for recruiting and retaining the trained workers
- [00:01:12.234]who work with at risk, high risk children.
- [00:01:15.809]National effort, we're very proud
- [00:01:17.676]of having that under way now at the
- [00:01:19.959]University of Nebraska.
- [00:01:21.413]I understand that this is
- [00:01:23.088]a national effort that Nebraska's leading,
- [00:01:25.267]and working with other universities also.
- [00:01:27.377]Is that correct?
- [00:01:28.210]That's right.
- [00:01:29.264]So it is a tripartite, if you want to think of it
- [00:01:32.510]that way, effort among several university partners.
- [00:01:36.127]It is called the Quality Improvement Center
- [00:01:39.373]for Workforce Development.
- [00:01:41.092]It's being enabled
- [00:01:42.604]by a grant from the US Department of Health
- [00:01:44.735]and Human Services Administration
- [00:01:47.101]for their children and families
- [00:01:49.136]children's bureau, part of that agency
- [00:01:51.033]of the federal government.
- [00:01:53.202]We'll collaborate with three national
- [00:01:55.415]child welfare consultants and researchers
- [00:01:57.720]at the University of Colorado,
- [00:01:59.621]their Denver campus of CU,
- [00:02:03.195]the University of Louisville,
- [00:02:05.136]and our recent bowl game opponent,
- [00:02:07.528]just last week at the Music City Bowl,
- [00:02:11.526]when we played the University of Tennessee.
- [00:02:14.394]The effort is to find solutions
- [00:02:18.179]where we'll be working with the news center
- [00:02:21.686]to select up to ten tribal
- [00:02:23.394]and state child service agencies
- [00:02:26.263]located in both rural and urban areas nationwide
- [00:02:30.344]with a range of work force issues.
- [00:02:32.821]We'll have consulting teams from the center
- [00:02:35.170]who will be on site to assess issues
- [00:02:37.715]and develop solutions then work with the agencies
- [00:02:40.652]to implement and test their effectiveness.
- [00:02:43.545]And the results from the effort
- [00:02:45.385]will be shared nationally through a variety of outlets.
- [00:02:49.081]The center is going to draw on a very wide range
- [00:02:51.324]of expertise that will include
- [00:02:53.146]social work. It will include industrial
- [00:02:55.056]organizational psychology, human resource management,
- [00:02:57.697]educational pshychology, implementation science,
- [00:03:00.936]and of course, law from the center
- [00:03:03.336]with the children, families and the law.
- [00:03:05.540]So very proud of it! It's a multi disciplinary effort
- [00:03:08.748]on much of our research at the university
- [00:03:10.860]is now moved into that kind of multi discipline
- [00:03:14.043]efforts to solve big problems
- [00:03:16.021]and big challenges that are out there.
- [00:03:18.206]We're uniquely qualified to lead this project
- [00:03:20.903]here at UNL and proud of the opportunity
- [00:03:23.793]to build on our strengths in early childhood care
- [00:03:26.094]and development.
- [00:03:27.231]Very good.
- [00:03:28.064]Chancellor, appreciate the time.
- [00:03:29.022]Yep. Go Big Red.
- [00:03:31.230]We're at the half.
- [00:03:32.353]That's Chancellor Ronnie Green.
- [00:03:33.465]Nebraska and the Maryland Terrapins.
- [00:03:35.050]More half time in a few moments.
