- [00:00:41.107]for the farmers who go out to see some of the newest
- [00:00:43.445]gadgets and toys that they have to work with.
- [00:00:45.221]Well I'm sure you were asked about Husker football.
- [00:00:47.394]One you probably were also asked about some
- [00:00:50.419]really exciting news the university got this
- [00:00:52.477]with the U.S. News and World Report rankings that came out.
- [00:00:55.362]Well everybody was wanting to
- [00:00:57.394]show how we were going to win on Saturday and today
- [00:00:59.985]and so lot's of interest there about today's game.
- [00:01:04.019]But we always look forward to U.S. News and World Report
- [00:01:06.963]coming out every year with our higher education rankings
- [00:01:09.789]of institutions around the country.
- [00:01:12.653]We were very pleased this year,
- [00:01:14.793]our College of Business Administration made a big jump
- [00:01:17.365]in the rankings up into the top
- [00:01:18.701]fifty business schools in the country amongst the
- [00:01:22.067]very elite business schools in the U.S.
- [00:01:24.574]I'm very excited for that progress that our
- [00:01:27.070]College of Business continues to make
- [00:01:29.759]in the growth and size and in stature of CBA
- [00:01:34.125]and I'm very pleased about that,
- [00:01:35.871]very pleased about seeing the rankings come out.
- [00:01:38.063]That's wonderful news.
- [00:01:38.896]Alright yesterday, a big announcement here at the school
- [00:01:41.628]involving the Gates Foundation and the Raikes Foundation,
- [00:01:44.714]update us on all of that.
- [00:01:46.580]Well we have been building a program at the university
- [00:01:50.209]over about the last seven years in food for health.
- [00:01:54.863]Not just talking about food now,
- [00:01:56.869]but food catered to improved health and health environments.
- [00:02:01.371]A big part of that for us has been a group working
- [00:02:05.330]on gut microbiology,
- [00:02:07.145]digestive system microbiology in humans
- [00:02:10.882]in our food science program it's been called the
- [00:02:13.602]gut function initiative here at UNL for several years
- [00:02:17.779]it has reached kind of world renown status,
- [00:02:20.642]and we were very pleased yesterday that we received
- [00:02:24.587]a commitment from the Raikes Foundation,
- [00:02:27.506]Jeff and Trisha Raikes are long time supporters.
- [00:02:29.949]Jeff a native Nebraskan of the Ashland area
- [00:02:32.775]here in the state.
- [00:02:34.242]As well as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,
- [00:02:37.168]a five million dollar commitment to help move us forward
- [00:02:41.300]in a center for food for health that involves
- [00:02:44.801]this gut microbiology group
- [00:02:47.214]as well as our leadership at UNO
- [00:02:51.084]and at UNMC in the Monroe-Meyer
- [00:02:53.425]Cancer Center at UNMC.
- [00:02:55.830]Tying together from food to health
- [00:02:59.702]using this new area of research.
- [00:03:02.087]So a very exciting announcement and very pleased about that
- [00:03:05.504]support from the Raikes' and the Gates'.
- [00:03:08.189]That's really exciting news and I'm sure our good friend
- [00:03:11.547]Prem Paul was looking down upon yesterday's announcement
- [00:03:13.964]and had a big smile on his face.
- [00:03:15.549]I have no doubt Greg, we talked about Prem the last
- [00:03:19.351]couple of times on the show here
- [00:03:21.883]as we lost him recently.
- [00:03:24.421]And the big impact and transformational impact that he had
- [00:03:27.772]on our research programs at the university and we're
- [00:03:31.050]really pleased today that we are honoring Prem
- [00:03:34.136]during the game and the tribute at halftime
- [00:03:37.243]to him and his legacy.
- [00:03:39.062]And this is one of the things that shouted out in that,
- [00:03:42.184]that I'm sure that he's looking down very excited about
- [00:03:45.833]seeing the university take off.
- [00:03:47.528]Great, before that tribute.
- [00:03:49.553]Also saw in the news this week that you had a
- [00:03:51.842]really big symposium that you had out of Innovation Campus.
- [00:03:55.289]What can you tell our audience about that?
- [00:03:57.264]Well last week at the game, the Wyoming game,
- [00:04:00.903]We recognized Clayton Yeutter,
- [00:04:03.080]former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture and
- [00:04:04.944]U.S. trade representative and native Nebraskan.
- [00:04:08.015]Son of the university here,
- [00:04:10.321]who has helped us to begin establishing
- [00:04:14.329]Yeutter Institute for National Trade and Finance.
- [00:04:17.639]On Tuesday this past week,
- [00:04:19.664]we had Clayton still here with us
- [00:04:22.400]and he was joined by Ishige-san,
- [00:04:25.990]who is the chairman of the
- [00:04:28.159]Japanese External Trade Organization that deals with
- [00:04:31.889]trade coming in and out of Japan as part of their
- [00:04:35.774]business ministry and their government.
- [00:04:38.879]He came here to give a Yeutter forum lecture on our campus
- [00:04:43.111]to talk about trade and specifically, the importance of the
- [00:04:46.783]TPP or Trans-Pacific Partnership in trade that's under
- [00:04:50.211]discussion now amongst a number of the Asian nations,
- [00:04:53.628]including Japan and the U.S. as part of that.
- [00:04:57.094]Very great lecture that Ishige gave here on the campus
- [00:05:01.481]a number of our government leaders as well as faculty staff,
- [00:05:05.442]students and business leaders across the state joined
- [00:05:09.069]us on Innovation Campus on Tuesday
- [00:05:11.399]to learn about the importance of the TPP.
- [00:05:14.031]Very good, well busy week,
- [00:05:15.564]thanks for the update on all of that and enjoy the game
- [00:05:17.410]and we'll see you in Evenston next week
- [00:05:19.025]for the first road game of the year for the Huskers.
- [00:05:20.837]Absolutely, go Big Red.
- [00:05:22.504]Ronnie Green, UNL Chancellor.
