- [00:00:00.388]Coming up on Mobile Learning in the Classroom,
- [00:00:02.221]more from Google Apps.
- [00:00:04.573](lively upbeat music)
- [00:00:17.215]Hi, I'm Zoe Falls, and today on Mobile Learning
- [00:00:19.376]in the Classroom, we're gonna look at some
- [00:00:20.960]new features from Google Apps.
- [00:00:23.830]So this semester my students have been
- [00:00:25.429]using Google Classroom, and so I've been paying
- [00:00:28.604]much closer attention to all of the different
- [00:00:30.705]and new features that Google is putting out
- [00:00:32.924]for their app suite.
- [00:00:35.144]One of the more interesting ones, at least I think
- [00:00:37.476]for students and teachers, is their note program Keep
- [00:00:42.145]is now integrated with Docs.
- [00:00:45.346]So I have it opened up, and this is actually notes
- [00:00:49.189]from Keep that I've had on my phone.
- [00:00:51.595]I use it a lot for grocery lists and other little
- [00:00:55.648]quick memento things that I need to remember
- [00:00:57.752]for a later date.
- [00:00:59.315]But Keep operates like any other note-taking application.
- [00:01:04.587]So you could have your students using it in the same way
- [00:01:06.529]they would Evernote, or OneNote from Microsoft.
- [00:01:10.496]Then when they go to write a paper,
- [00:01:13.416]they can have their notes up right in the same window
- [00:01:16.504]which is a really convenient way for them
- [00:01:18.485]to be able to reference back to things from
- [00:01:20.545]earlier in the semester, or maybe notes they
- [00:01:22.766]took from their reading.
- [00:01:24.879]And if it's a group project, they can have
- [00:01:28.121]multiple people in the document
- [00:01:30.459]and be looking at the notes that they've created.
- [00:01:33.955]And again, it's as simple as drag and drop.
- [00:01:39.438]I've worked with a lot of different note programs
- [00:01:41.787]over my life, and anything that I can drag and drop
- [00:01:45.828]makes my life so much easier because there are some days
- [00:01:48.344]where an extra five words of typing just
- [00:01:50.103]seems like way too many.
- [00:01:52.467]In this way it becomes fully integrated, so it
- [00:01:54.812]doesn't drop in as some sort of image or
- [00:01:57.462]some sort of subset, but as something that you can
- [00:02:00.162]continue to just type on.
- [00:02:05.053]So it integrates, literally, within
- [00:02:08.347]what you have going on.
- [00:02:11.894]So again, you can scroll through whatever
- [00:02:15.977]that you've taken from multiple devices.
- [00:02:17.478]Like I said, most of the notes from my Keep
- [00:02:19.965]have come from my cell phone.
- [00:02:21.979]But if your students are using it on their Chromebooks
- [00:02:24.995]or as part of Google Classroom, they can pull that up
- [00:02:28.902]and be using that within their Google document.
- [00:02:34.367]So let's go ahead and let's try an image.
- [00:02:39.008]And again, it does the same sort of thing
- [00:02:41.202]and it brings the subtext with it.
- [00:02:45.184]Like I said, this is from my personal stuff so again
- [00:02:47.844]your students will probably have different images
- [00:02:50.659]in with their notes.
- [00:02:54.150]But again, if you're encouraging your students to be
- [00:02:56.669]utilizing multimedia in the classroom,
- [00:02:59.853]Google Keep has really great features where you can
- [00:03:02.424]snap an image and it's automatically in there.
- [00:03:04.666]Then instead of having to worry about
- [00:03:06.302]inserting a document from a folder, or finding
- [00:03:08.649]where you saved that image, again
- [00:03:10.846]it's all in the same place and they can just
- [00:03:13.695]drag it over and drop.
- [00:03:15.268]One of the other things that I know I have in here
- [00:03:17.624]somewhere is just a bullet list.
- [00:03:21.766]I think I should have one.
- [00:03:26.801]Maybe not, I thought I did.
- [00:03:28.355]But you can keep bullet lists in Google Keep and
- [00:03:33.172]within that, then it'll drag the bullet list in as well.
- [00:03:38.043]So again, it's just a more convenient way to take notes.
- [00:03:43.013]For your students it might be a super easy way
- [00:03:45.651]to help them streamline, and also keep them organized.
- [00:03:49.132]They don't have to worry about
- [00:03:50.781]oh I left that notebook at home, or I don't remember
- [00:03:54.409]where I saved it.
- [00:03:56.289]So if you're working with younger students that you're
- [00:03:58.690]acclimating them to using digital tools,
- [00:04:01.462]they don't have to worry about six different
- [00:04:03.326]spaces to keep things, it's all in one place
- [00:04:07.290]and it's all part of Google.
- [00:04:09.254]So again, it's one log in, easy access,
- [00:04:11.614]and drag and drop.
- [00:04:13.694]So again it's just a nice little feature.
- [00:04:16.964]Nothing has changed with Keep that I've seen
- [00:04:19.620]other than it's now, again, just pulled in
- [00:04:23.102]within Google Docs.
- [00:04:25.261]So this has been more from Google Apps, and thanks.
- [00:04:29.413](lively upbeat music)
