The Durham School Career Fair is the premier event for finding internships and jobs in Architectural Engineering, Construction Management and Engineering. All students are encouraged to attend to connect with over 80 employers at this event each fall.

- [00:00:34.354]I'd recommend going to the career fair
- [00:00:35.814]almost as soon as possible,
- [00:00:37.727]even if you are a freshman.
- [00:00:39.180]From the career fair,
- [00:00:40.013]I've gained an internship this past summer.
- [00:00:42.290]So I was able to meet the company at the career fair
- [00:00:44.681]and interview with them as well.
- [00:00:47.464]I've attended ever since my freshman year.
- [00:00:49.965]The career fair has given me confidence
- [00:00:52.308]on how I want to represent myself to future employers
- [00:00:55.558]as well as provided me numerous opportunities

- [00:01:01.919]look for two really important qualities.
- [00:01:04.216]The first is that technical knowledge
- [00:01:06.073]of what you are going to be using in the real world.
- [00:01:08.593]And the second is the ability to communicate with your peers
- [00:01:11.927]as well as your clients.
- [00:01:13.430]And I think the Durham School provides employers
- [00:01:16.059]with those students and that high caliber.
- [00:01:18.609]And I think that's what they find here.
- [00:01:21.118]What I've gotten out of the career fair
- [00:01:22.341]in the past is internships.
- [00:01:24.212]Starting my freshman year,
- [00:01:25.208]I was able to obtain an internship for the summer.
- [00:01:27.860]I was sent to Denver, Colorado,
- [00:01:29.257]which was an amazing opportunity to learn
- [00:01:31.273]and just have that confidence to go out
- [00:01:33.189]and be in the construction field.
- [00:01:35.657]It was just an amazing opportunity.
- [00:01:37.569]I was terrified.
- [00:01:38.411]I am a construction management student,
- [00:01:40.047]but I wasn't sure if I really wanted to do construction.
- [00:01:42.965]And attending the career fair provided me
- [00:01:44.983]with the opportunity to have an employer take me on
- [00:01:48.058]and be an intern.
- [00:01:49.393]And it really just set my ground and my fundamentals
- [00:01:53.034]for construction.
- [00:01:53.867]I'm very excited that the Durham School offered that.
- [00:01:57.040]What makes a Durham student special
- [00:01:58.735]is that we have been provided with opportunities
- [00:02:00.991]within the school.
- [00:02:02.105]The teachers that we have, our professors,
- [00:02:03.965]and just the faculty and staff
- [00:02:05.267]who assist us in our resumes,
- [00:02:06.866]who assist in us how to go through interviews,
- [00:02:09.522]everything we have, we've been trained for.
- [00:02:11.302]And we are not afraid to go out there
- [00:02:12.852]and interview and get a job.
- [00:02:14.582]What separates the Durham School is how well
- [00:02:16.508]it can connect students with industry professionals.
- [00:02:19.389]You're starting to be molded into what they want you to be
- [00:02:22.099]as the next generation of building designer
- [00:02:24.367]and building engineers.
- [00:02:25.994]And that's something that you really don't see
- [00:02:27.431]at all the other programs out there.
- [00:02:29.467]And recently, they did win the NCEES Award
- [00:02:32.043]for connecting engineering students with professionals.
- [00:02:35.483]And they won the grand prize for the first time.
- [00:02:37.871]It just signifies the state that the program's in, I think.
- [00:02:41.978]Yeah, I did find my job at the Durham School Career Fair.
- [00:02:44.796]I did get connected with my first internship there.
- [00:02:48.175]Here, just a few months ago, I started full-time.
- [00:02:50.207]So yeah, it's all through the career fair
- [00:02:52.491]and the people I met and relationships I built there.
- [00:02:55.937]There's definitely a wide variety of companies
- [00:02:57.389]from all over the country that come to this career fair.
- [00:02:59.739]And they offer some really cool jobs.
