Jordyn Bader has a long history with the Rural Futures Institute, so we touched base with her on how her experiences through RFI Student Serviceship and her graduate assistantship have helped her in her ongoing career.

[00:00:15.544]My serviceship was in Holdrege, Nebraska
[00:00:17.847]and our job there was to help the community create
[00:00:21.574]and develop a marketing campaign for the entire community.
[00:00:28.262]It's a really unique experience for students
[00:00:31.097]because you really have the opportunity to own
[00:00:34.695]a project and to help a community achieve something
[00:00:37.595]that they've maybe been struggling with.
[00:00:41.758]My experience in Holdrege and with the
[00:00:44.110]Rural Futures Serviceship Program is more valuable
[00:00:46.905]to me today than it was almost even while I was there
[00:00:49.744]experiencing it.
[00:00:51.032]It's wonderful to discover and to know through your
[00:00:53.757]research, but with Rural Futures, it really kind of
[00:00:56.430]helps you to see it in another light and this is great
[00:00:59.159]information, but now what does it mean in the real world?
[00:01:02.851]What does it mean to these communities and what lessons
[00:01:04.728]can I pull from this?
[00:01:07.396]Upon graduation with my Master's degree, I started working
[00:01:10.149]at GrainBridge and GrainBridge is an ad tech company
[00:01:13.070]who provides an application that helps farmers,
[00:01:17.408]ranchers and agro-businesses better manage their operation.
[00:01:23.056]One thing that was really attractive to me in where
[00:01:25.490]RFI influenced that is even though that took me to
[00:01:29.422]a city like Omaha, the work that I did is actually with
[00:01:31.952]very important people within the rural community.
[00:01:35.285]The fabric that holds together the entire country,
[00:01:38.670]producers and agriculturalists are the folks that
[00:01:41.531]I get to work with and get to impact.
[00:01:47.084]The people have been my favorite part about my experience
[00:01:50.319]within RFI, whether it was students that I was working
[00:01:53.928]with through the serviceship program and the staff at RFI,
[00:01:57.022]but even beyond that, the community leaders
[00:02:00.563]across Nebraska and beyond that are involved
[00:02:03.847]in the Rural Futures Institute.
[00:02:06.625]They are the doers and the innovators and the change-makers.
[00:02:12.430]It was such an incredible experience to be able
[00:02:14.501]to be connected and working alongside people
[00:02:17.715]who were energized and see a very bright future
[00:02:21.147]for rural America.
[00:02:23.665]The projects that I was working on whether it was
[00:02:25.839]in research or through this serviceship program,
[00:02:27.979]I felt a lot of ownership in that experience
[00:02:30.687]and it was really purposeful work.
[00:02:33.503]I knew that what I was doing made a difference
[00:02:35.337]at the end of the day and I think that that's
[00:02:37.641]a really unique experience for students to have
[00:02:39.967]and something worth exploring regardless of
[00:02:42.314]where anyone grew up.
