[00:00:12.981]We've been recruiting at the school for a very long time.
[00:00:15.149]And the reason that we do recruit here
[00:00:17.120]is because of the Architectural Engineering Program.
[00:00:19.428]I work for a firm that is a full-service
[00:00:21.705]architecture and engineering firm,
[00:00:23.537]and we find that the students here are very well-prepared
[00:00:25.879]to do the exact work that we do every day.
[00:00:28.502]So we have structural engineering students,
[00:00:30.259]mechanical engineering students,
[00:00:31.887]lighting designers, electrical engineers,
[00:00:33.857]and we find that they're a great fit for our firm,
[00:00:35.900]and they can hit the ground running,
[00:00:37.675]and they have a lot of success.
[00:00:39.738]They can grow quickly.
[00:00:41.125]They're bright students.
[00:00:42.620]We really are looking for
[00:00:43.916]the very top students in your program.
[00:00:46.169]So that's something that we use the career fair
[00:00:48.650]to help us with that recruiting effort.
[00:00:50.596]We're a local company that supports the local students
[00:00:53.139]and the local university.
[00:00:54.814]We have many interns and graduates
[00:00:56.880]that work for our company.
[00:00:58.257]These local students are gonna be more apt
[00:01:00.610]to stay in the local community upon graduation.
[00:01:03.414]Our experience with the Durham students
[00:01:04.983]has been that they're very hard-working individuals
[00:01:07.923]that have a good work ethic, good common sense,
[00:01:10.728]and they understand what it takes to be successful
[00:01:14.077]in the construction industry.
[00:01:15.772]It's very important for us to
[00:01:17.428]hire, train, and develop these young students
[00:01:20.538]to replace the older working generation.
[00:01:24.026]We brought onboard a few interns last summer
[00:01:26.071]that did really well.
[00:01:27.231]And as we've come back, it's been fun to see how
[00:01:29.773]we've gotten to know their friends
[00:01:31.255]and some of their peers,
[00:01:32.578]and gotten to understand the program here a lot better.
[00:01:35.040]And we found that actually a lot of folks here
[00:01:37.410]are usually really sharp and put together.
[00:01:39.422]What's their presence like?
[00:01:41.203]Would we put them in front of a client
[00:01:42.746]and in front of our trade partners?
[00:01:44.680]So that's really what we look for
[00:01:46.189]when we come to these career fairs.
[00:01:47.811]They focus on implementing
[00:01:49.098]the real-world scenarios in the classroom,
[00:01:52.186]teaching the technical side,
[00:01:53.618]but also the soft skills, the communication,
[00:01:55.861]the customer service that not only
[00:01:58.515]internal for the industry is needed
[00:02:00.291]but also externally for those customers that
[00:02:02.704]that industry serves.
[00:02:04.156]Well, they perform their tasks well,
[00:02:05.630]but they're always asking for new opportunities
[00:02:08.396]to gain more experience during their internship,
[00:02:11.893]and they have a great work ethic
[00:02:13.944]and I think a lot of that comes from
[00:02:15.581]having great professors who are coming from the industry
[00:02:18.787]and teaching them the fundamentals of being successful.
[00:02:21.765]And it seems that every year
[00:02:23.279]they set the bar higher and higher.
[00:02:25.346]And the students are so well-prepared
[00:02:27.981]when they graduate from this program.
[00:02:30.844]They join our firm and they immediately have an impact
[00:02:33.507]on our projects, on our clients, and in the community.
[00:02:36.422]That's not only very important for us,
[00:02:38.001]but that's also very important for them.
[00:02:39.861]It's made us tremendously successful
[00:02:41.584]with recruiting from the Durham school.
[00:02:43.713]There's one thing that we see
[00:02:45.138]from the students that come outta this school
[00:02:47.332]when they work for us in terms of internships,
[00:02:49.887]and then also permanent jobs afterwards,
[00:02:52.006]is that they're very, very driven.
[00:02:53.383]They have goals in mind, they wanna help the end customer,
[00:02:56.099]whether it be a hospital, whether it be a school,
[00:02:58.598]whether it be a university.
[00:03:00.037]They really wanna make a difference out there
[00:03:02.191]in terms of how we do things within building,
[00:03:04.537]so I think that's one thing that sets them apart.
[00:03:06.561]The students are very well-prepared
[00:03:08.461]when they arrive at the career fair.
[00:03:10.151]They've done their homework on the companies.
[00:03:12.176]They ask us good questions.
[00:03:13.726]We're able to find out quite a bit about them
[00:03:16.340]because they've given it some thought.
[00:03:19.145]And then we look at the program.
[00:03:20.413]This program has a great curriculum.
[00:03:22.979]The professors are wonderful,
[00:03:24.607]and quite frankly I think the industry involvement
[00:03:26.831]really sets this program apart.
