- [00:00:02.470]One of the interesting features of Canvas
- [00:00:04.361]is how it deals with assignments.
- [00:00:08.673]It forces you into a certain workflow.
- [00:00:11.077]So, for example, I cannot go to the gradebook
- [00:00:15.674]and just add a column to the gradebook
- [00:00:18.441]because I have something new that I want to grade.
- [00:00:21.695]There's no way to do that here in gradebook.
- [00:00:27.091]I have to go back to my main page and click on Assignments.
- [00:00:33.211]And in Assignments, I can click on plus Assignment here
- [00:00:36.739]to add an assignment.
- [00:00:38.941]When I do that, it's gonna suggest that I add a date
- [00:00:43.871]for that assignment, so I'll click on that, for example.
- [00:00:49.094]We'll just call this Junk assignment right now.
- [00:00:54.289]I can put in information in here,
- [00:00:56.435]I can scroll down to Points.
- [00:01:01.381]So let's just make this worth one point.
- [00:01:03.674]I'll say the category, I'll put it
- [00:01:06.524]in my ignore category right now so the students
- [00:01:08.752]in my class don't worry about this.
- [00:01:12.847]And then, scrolling down, I can make it
- [00:01:16.415]an online submission, no submission, an external tool.
- [00:01:19.581]I'm gonna say it's online and it's something
- [00:01:21.263]they're supposed to upload and then I pick a due date.
- [00:01:26.555]So let's make this due tomorrow.
- [00:01:30.233]So it's coming up quickly.
- [00:01:33.313]I can set that same available date
- [00:01:36.429]so that when it's due that's also when it will close,
- [00:01:39.670]so I'm not gonna accept any late submissions
- [00:01:42.161]and I can save and publish.
- [00:01:45.396]When I make this assignment here,
- [00:01:48.152]it now exists in the Assignment list
- [00:01:51.300]that all the students can see.
- [00:01:56.152]So down here under Ignore is
- [00:01:59.199]the Junk assignment that I just made.
- [00:02:06.043]It's also gonna populate it into the Syllabus,
- [00:02:09.378]into the Calendar, and it's gonna
- [00:02:11.096]tell students that thing's due.
- [00:02:12.673]So let's click on Settings,
- [00:02:14.464]I'm gonna go over to the Student View.
- [00:02:17.256]Canvas has a nice way to flip over
- [00:02:19.145]and see what the students see.
- [00:02:21.749]So, the student comes to the home page of this class.
- [00:02:25.062]Right there under Coming Up is this junk assignment
- [00:02:27.846]I just created because it's due tomorrow
- [00:02:29.243]so it's on the top of their list,
- [00:02:30.680]the major thing that they need to do.
- [00:02:33.086]If they click on the Syllabus, going to be listed here.
- [00:02:38.059]This is all the items in the course listed by date,
- [00:02:40.969]so it's gonna stick it in the right spot
- [00:02:43.796]in dates down here, for October 12th.
- [00:02:48.430]And it's sticking it into this calendar,
- [00:02:52.096]if I wanna go to Calendar view, I click on here,
- [00:02:54.733]and it'll make it a little bigger calendar,
- [00:02:56.740]and the student will see all the stuff
- [00:02:58.269]and there's Junk sitting there tomorrow.
- [00:02:59.903]So you put it in one spot, it puts it in all these spots
- [00:03:02.668]and for a student who's taking multiple classes,
- [00:03:05.548]this calendar will combine all their information
- [00:03:07.571]across all their classes.
- [00:03:08.833]So it creates a unified view and
- [00:03:10.331]when they come into the main page, it will also tell them,
- [00:03:14.642]it would tell them their upcoming assignments
- [00:03:16.489]over here in Coming Up across all of their classes.
- [00:03:19.619]And so this assignment is a single, exists in one spot.
- [00:03:23.357]If I make any changes to this assignment,
- [00:03:25.357]let's leave the Student View and
- [00:03:26.916]we'll go back over to my Instructor View.
- [00:03:30.582]I can go into Assignments, I can go back to that assignment,
- [00:03:35.221]I can click on it, I can go in, let's see,
- [00:03:39.345]Edit and change something about it.
- [00:03:42.821]For example, I can say,
- [00:03:44.548]You never need to do this, as a note.
- [00:03:52.120]And save that or I could change the date
- [00:03:57.003]or I could remove it and
- [00:03:58.313]it will change that in all the spots.
- [00:04:01.251]So in the syllabus, here it's listed,
- [00:04:04.005]if a student clicks on it, they'll go to that assignment.
- [00:04:07.331]There's the note on that assignment.
- [00:04:09.617]If I go to my Grades and I scroll over,
- [00:04:12.710]there it is now, sitting in my gradebook.
- [00:04:16.126]I can click on it, it'll come back to that assignment
- [00:04:20.709]and I can say oh, let's take this assignment
- [00:04:23.294]and I'm actually gonna remove it.
- [00:04:27.077]And it'll remove it from all those spots.
- [00:04:30.597]Up here, delete.
