- [00:00:05.176]In the last six and a half years
- [00:00:07.203]it has been my privilege to serve as Dean
- [00:00:09.891]of the College of Business
- [00:00:11.734]and to start something here in Nebraska.
- [00:00:14.445]I am so proud of the many things we've accomplished.
- [00:00:18.027]The CBA Honors Academy.
- [00:00:20.107]The Sales Certificate Program.
- [00:00:22.328]The Clifton Strengths Institute.
- [00:00:24.397]The new majors and the new department of
- [00:00:26.523]Supply Chain Management and Analytics.
- [00:00:29.400]We opened a Career Services office.
- [00:00:31.960]And started new study abroad options for our students.
- [00:00:35.821]These are among the programs that have revitalized
- [00:00:38.968]and strengthened CBA.
- [00:00:41.325]All of them will look so good
- [00:00:43.917]in our new building to open this summer.
- [00:00:46.979]Our partnerships with athletics,
- [00:00:49.016]our rise in the rankings
- [00:00:50.584]all of these things are indicators
- [00:00:52.685]of the strength of the college.
- [00:00:54.988]We've hired more than 70 new faculty
- [00:00:57.571]and about as many new staff
- [00:00:59.341]since I came to Nebraska.
- [00:01:01.144]The enthusiasm and commitment to excellence
- [00:01:03.789]that each of them brings
- [00:01:05.752]inspires me, every day.
- [00:01:08.675]The engagement of our alums
- [00:01:10.605]and the larger Nebraska community
- [00:01:12.824]is at a new high.
- [00:01:14.392]And it has infused our college with an energy
- [00:01:17.368]and a confidence
- [00:01:18.744]that we had never experienced before.
- [00:01:21.571]So many good things have come
- [00:01:24.033]from those partnerships.
- [00:01:26.317]Every time I walk past our new building
- [00:01:28.920]still under construction
- [00:01:30.723]I think of the alums
- [00:01:32.162]who have built it
- [00:01:33.549]for future alums.
- [00:01:35.939]And we will never lose sight of the purpose
- [00:01:38.819]behind all of these efforts.
- [00:01:41.229]To provide a stimulating learning environment
- [00:01:44.011]for our students
- [00:01:45.272]who will become tomorrow's good citizens
- [00:01:48.312]and great leaders.
- [00:01:50.051]We now have 4,200 students majoring in business
- [00:01:54.211]and another thousand or more studying in our minor.
- [00:01:57.613]Our impact continues to grow.
- [00:02:01.644]It is with a heart full of emotion that I tell you
- [00:02:05.037]that I have accepted the position of Executive
- [00:02:07.608]Vice Chancellor here at UNL.
- [00:02:10.200]As is so often the case in life, opportunities come
- [00:02:13.698]when we are least looking for them.
- [00:02:16.024]I'm excited to partner with Chancellor Ronnie Green
- [00:02:18.989]and help him take our entire campus to the next level.
- [00:02:22.531]I truly believe that many of our accomplishments
- [00:02:25.165]in CBA can be a model
- [00:02:27.341]for the campus, as a whole.
- [00:02:30.381]As you know, in CBA, we use the expression
- [00:02:33.804]start something.
- [00:02:35.011]Which captures our spirit
- [00:02:36.813]and our philosophy.
- [00:02:38.411]So, I am actually going to be starting something myself
- [00:02:43.437]as I move to this new role January first.
- [00:02:46.979]Trust me, I am taking the start something mantra
- [00:02:50.264]with me to the campus level.
- [00:02:53.021]I am pleased to announce the appointment
- [00:02:55.393]of Dr. Kathy Farrell
- [00:02:57.123]as Interim Dean of the College of Business Administration.
- [00:03:00.557]Kathy will formally start this new role
- [00:03:03.319]in the new year.
- [00:03:04.770]From day one Kathy has been my right hand person
- [00:03:07.800]here in the College of Business.
- [00:03:09.859]She served for four years as Senior Associate Dean.
- [00:03:13.410]And currently serves as the chair of the Department
- [00:03:15.779]of Finance.
- [00:03:16.760]Home to our respective finance and actuary science programs.
- [00:03:21.176]Kathy is admired by her department
- [00:03:23.725]and by our entire college
- [00:03:25.688]because every day she shows
- [00:03:27.798]so much positive energy and thoughtful leadership.
- [00:03:32.025]People just want to be around her.
- [00:03:34.723]And they want to be part of her team.
- [00:03:36.931]She will do the same thing from the dean's office.
- [00:03:40.696]A published researcher
- [00:03:42.381]Kathy has brought her expertise in finance, banking,
- [00:03:45.707]and corporate governance to our classrooms
- [00:03:48.216]since 1993.
- [00:03:50.443]She's earned multiple teaching awards.
- [00:03:52.995]Prior to academia, she was an auditor for KPMG
- [00:03:56.813]in Baltimore, and Atlanta.
- [00:03:58.904]And she continues to lend her expertise
- [00:04:00.995]serving on boards for the business community.
- [00:04:04.331]Kathy, with your experience as both an academic
- [00:04:07.320]and a business leader, I'm totally confident
- [00:04:10.211]that you're gonna continue to advance our
- [00:04:12.461]big tin College of Business to the next level.
- [00:04:15.437]Thank you Donde.
- [00:04:16.973]It is a great privilege to serve the College of Business
- [00:04:19.811]in the role of Interim Dean.
- [00:04:21.165]Our community of students, faculty,
- [00:04:24.056]staff, alumni,
- [00:04:25.560]and business partners
- [00:04:26.669]make this an extremely energetic place.
- [00:04:29.196]And I'm excited to continue building on the growth
- [00:04:32.195]that we've experienced under your leadership.
- [00:04:34.701]I'm confident the college will flourish during
- [00:04:36.931]this transition as we move into the new building.
- [00:04:40.109]Let's continue to start something together.
- [00:04:42.477]Okay. (laughs)
