- [00:00:06.358]Somebody once told me that
- [00:00:08.953]in the beginning of the journey of CYN,
- [00:00:11.178]that it was all about connecting
- [00:00:12.669]the next generation of leaders.
- [00:00:14.578]So when you think about the state senators,
- [00:00:16.675]when you think about the governor,
- [00:00:17.674]when you think about the leaders in your community,
- [00:00:21.367]if you connect them now,
- [00:00:22.976]think how powerful that will be
- [00:00:25.138]when they're in the leadership roles.
- [00:00:27.177]So that's kind of been the driving force behind CYN,
- [00:00:30.538]is the connection factor.
- [00:00:32.847]I take it a step farther and I also challenge that
- [00:00:36.618]the leadership in this room is already there.
- [00:00:40.117]So we are currently leaders in our own right,
- [00:00:44.109]whether it's in our community, in our churches,
- [00:00:45.559]in our places, but we're already leading.
- [00:00:49.239]I'm Kayla Schnelly.
- [00:00:50.250]I'm with the Rural Futures Institute.
- [00:00:52.130]I'm really happy to be here.
- [00:00:53.388]I'm so happy to see 200 and almost 70 plus people
- [00:00:56.940]in this room.
- [00:00:57.929]Biggest summit ever.
- [00:00:58.762]Let's give yourselves a round of applause.
- [00:01:00.146](audience applauding)
- [00:01:02.536]So we had some exciting things happen today.
- [00:01:04.586]Ron had told you about all the energy and excitement,
- [00:01:06.865]but I also wanna talk to you about network.
- [00:01:09.538]This is a network.
- [00:01:10.568]CYN is not an organization.
- [00:01:12.075]I don't ask you to pay dues.
- [00:01:13.648]I want you to be here because you wanna be here
- [00:01:16.248]and I want you to take this opportunity to meet people
- [00:01:18.296]that are different than you,
- [00:01:19.736]that are like you, that are thinking partners for you.
- [00:01:23.096]What I want you to visualize in your head right now
- [00:01:25.475]is a spiderweb.
- [00:01:27.277]Anders came to his table, came to this event
- [00:01:29.790]with his network.
- [00:01:31.628]It overlaid with Carrie's network and Sara's network.
- [00:01:35.058]There's several people that stood more than once.
- [00:01:37.436]So you all come with your own networks
- [00:01:39.476]and think how powerful it is when all those networks collide
- [00:01:42.407]and you build relationships across networks.
- [00:01:44.836]I also want you to think about your communities.
- [00:01:46.359]Pretend all these tables are different communities.
- [00:01:49.007]54 communities represented here today.
- [00:01:51.220]And if you overlay the passion, energy,
- [00:01:54.700]knowledge, ideas across all of our communities and connect,
- [00:01:58.780]think about the difference that's gonna make.
- [00:02:00.420]Think how it's gonna make you feel
- [00:02:01.980]when you know others are out there
- [00:02:03.418]struggling with the same struggles,
- [00:02:05.047]having the same passions, having the same conversations.
- [00:02:08.278]So that's my challenge to you today,
- [00:02:09.727]is to think about those things and think about
- [00:02:11.407]how your networks collide with somebody else's network.
- [00:02:14.118]Also, I wanted to share with you.
- [00:02:16.319]So we did two pre-session questions to you.
- [00:02:20.988]One of them was about current leadership roles.
- [00:02:23.388]So if you look at this chart,
- [00:02:24.999]basically what it's showing is people who have
- [00:02:27.490]four or more leadership roles
- [00:02:29.140]that are currently in the room.
- [00:02:30.730]Then the next one is two to three leadership roles,
- [00:02:33.780]that's what you're currently holding.
- [00:02:35.507]The next one is people that aspire to have leadership roles
- [00:02:39.308]and the last one is people that aren't really interested
- [00:02:41.507]in leading at this time.
- [00:02:43.319]So what I want to show you today is,
- [00:02:45.130]there is a lot of people in this room
- [00:02:47.439]that have some pretty awesome leadership capabilities
- [00:02:50.970]and they're already leading in their communities,
- [00:02:52.820]their churches, their places, wherever they may be.
- [00:02:55.279]So that's pretty powerful.
- [00:02:57.275]To me, this is an awesome chart.
- [00:02:59.572]The other thing I wanted you to know is,
- [00:03:01.191]one of the pre-session survey questions
- [00:03:02.871]that many of you just answered the day before yesterday
- [00:03:05.322]was about being hopeful.
- [00:03:07.059]And Katelyn just pointed out to me earlier
- [00:03:09.212]that 95% of the people in this room are extremely hopeful
- [00:03:14.111]or hopeful about the future that you are creating.
- [00:03:16.660]So that's extremely amazing and powerful
- [00:03:19.420]and that's why we're here.
- [00:03:21.227]And without further ado, I want to introduce
- [00:03:24.258]a friend and colleague of mine, Dr. Connie Reimers-Hild.
- [00:03:27.820]She is associate director for the Rural Futures Institute,
- [00:03:30.580]but also chief futurist for us.
- [00:03:33.359]So Connie is going to challenge us to think
- [00:03:35.351]a little bit different.
- [00:03:36.359]Maybe put on a different lens and think about the future
- [00:03:39.191]and how we are going to change, adapt, grow,
- [00:03:42.159]having this future conversation.
