- [00:00:06.359]First of all, welcome.
- [00:00:08.071]We are so excited that you are here for the 2016
- [00:00:10.960]Connecting Young Nebraskans Summit in York.
- [00:00:13.803]This is the largest summit we've had
- [00:00:15.644]with over 260 participants.
- [00:00:18.663]You guys are coming from 54 different communities
- [00:00:21.402]across the state, so thank you so much
- [00:00:23.484]for taking the time to come today,
- [00:00:26.257]and spending your whole day with us.
- [00:00:29.320]We're excited to have you.
- [00:00:31.896]I want to tell you a little bit about how we
- [00:00:33.325]kicked off the summit.
- [00:00:34.711]We started last night with a social.
- [00:00:36.100]We had 100 people sign up for it and attend
- [00:00:38.023]Amazing Arthur Fratelli, who is a mentalist.
- [00:00:41.820]He had a great performance for us,
- [00:00:43.656]and we were at Chances Are, so thank you
- [00:00:45.453]to Chances Are for hosting us.
- [00:00:47.616]We had a great time.
- [00:00:50.922]We have a lot of additional benefits happening today
- [00:00:53.738]besides the great lineup of speakers.
- [00:00:56.190]One of them is photo head shots, as you can see.
- [00:00:59.824]Bret has already taken over 30 photos over there,
- [00:01:02.397]so please sign up and make your way over there
- [00:01:04.481]throughout the day and get a professional head shot.
- [00:01:07.339]We have 24 Hour Tees just south of the ballroom.
- [00:01:10.867]Chase Meyers is making t-shirts on the spot.
- [00:01:13.750]It's $12 for a really nice, soft, comfortable t-shirt.
- [00:01:18.412]You get to pick your color and your size,
- [00:01:20.043]and they print them right there for you.
- [00:01:22.168]So make you stop by and grab yourself a t-shirt.
- [00:01:24.743]Don't forget to visit Annie at Latte Da Coffee.
- [00:01:27.477]She'll be here most of the day.
- [00:01:29.517]Coffee's included, provided by the Summit,
- [00:01:31.805]so help yourself and enjoy.
- [00:01:34.343]Backing up to the t-shirts, five of you have
- [00:01:37.032]a t-shirt underneath your chair.
- [00:01:39.154]So if you want to check, you might be a lucky winner.
- [00:01:41.855]Alright, I also want to let you guys know
- [00:01:44.871]that we do have resume critiques that are happening
- [00:01:47.546]at the first breakout session.
- [00:01:49.760]You can drop your resume off at the back table,
- [00:01:52.168]and we have three highly qualified individuals
- [00:01:54.711]that will be critiquing them and will review
- [00:01:56.688]them with you this afternoon during the break.
- [00:02:00.039]Finally, I want to introduce the York planning team.
- [00:02:04.044]There have been nine of us since the beginning
- [00:02:05.634]of the year that put together an application,
- [00:02:07.878]and have been planning this event
- [00:02:10.007]with the steering team from the State,
- [00:02:12.860]so when I say your name, if you could please stand.
- [00:02:15.101]Michaela Stewart, Ashley Prochaska,
- [00:02:20.045]Emily Lutz, Holly Bortchers,
- [00:02:24.926]Megan Burda, Megan Dutlass,
- [00:02:29.465]Kirby Romar, and Cherie Fultz.
- [00:02:32.900]So thank you so much ladies.
- [00:02:39.618]I appreciate all the time and ideas and energy
- [00:02:42.815]that you provided to help create this summit.
- [00:02:45.517]Next up, I'm going to introduce Andrea Gebhart.
- [00:02:47.930]She is part of the CYN statewide steering team.
- [00:02:50.716]She is going to introduce to you
- [00:02:52.719]about the brand new CYN app.
- [00:02:55.501]This year, brand new to the Summit is an app.
- [00:02:58.192]Everyone take out your phone.
- [00:03:00.318]You're actually allowed to be on your phone
- [00:03:01.585]while there's a speaker up here.
- [00:03:03.219]Take out your phone, go to your App Store,
- [00:03:05.058]your Play Store, whatever it's called on your phone.
- [00:03:07.712]Search Rural Futures.
- [00:03:10.486]It's a little bit of a process, but go ahead and do it.
- [00:03:12.528]Even if you're a little reluctant to download apps,
- [00:03:14.368]which I am, just do it.
- [00:03:16.656]It's definitely worth it.
- [00:03:18.776]I'm telling you to do it, you can delete later if you want.
- [00:03:20.776]But just go do it.
- [00:03:23.304]As a note, when you download it,
- [00:03:25.638]when you login, you have to sign up with the email
- [00:03:27.562]that you registered with.
- [00:03:29.485]So if it's your work email, personal email,
- [00:03:31.279]whatever it is, it's that email.
- [00:03:33.360]You'll get a confirmation code to that email address.
- [00:03:36.912]Like I said, even if you're reluctant to download apps,
- [00:03:39.528]it's definitely worth it.
- [00:03:40.795]There's four big things that will help you.
- [00:03:42.831]One, you can set your own agenda.
- [00:03:44.510]Some of you may have picked up a hard copy agenda,
- [00:03:46.431]but the agenda is actually in this app.
- [00:03:49.169]If you go into the My Schedule part,
- [00:03:50.843]you can use a little grey plus button
- [00:03:55.092]that can make your own schedule.
- [00:03:56.938]Go in there, take a look at it, build your own schedule.
- [00:03:58.903]On top of that, there's also a map in there
- [00:04:01.076]that helps you navigate which breakout room you'll be in.
- [00:04:04.892]The other, probably best benefit, of the app,
- [00:04:07.933]is that you can connect with other attendees on there.
- [00:04:11.245]It kind of takes your level of connection
- [00:04:13.045]with other people here to another level.
- [00:04:17.060]Go in there, find your friends, and then make new friends
- [00:04:19.917]and connect on them.
- [00:04:21.549]Then afterwards, if you decide to keep the app,
- [00:04:23.426]you can continue connecting with them on the app.
- [00:04:26.407]You can also find speakers under contact information
- [00:04:28.610]in there and the sponsors and their websites.
- [00:04:32.081]So make sure you give our sponsors a little bit of love
- [00:04:33.955]for making this happen.
- [00:04:37.671]Additionally, we're going to use the app
- [00:04:39.020]to do the session surveys.
- [00:04:40.820]Rather than handing out paper surveys at each
- [00:04:42.740]of the breakout sessions, we're going to do our surveys
- [00:04:44.861]through the app.
- [00:04:46.783]When you're in the session, go to the session,
- [00:04:50.052]scroll down, and find the session survey.
- [00:04:52.583]There will be three quick, short questions
- [00:04:54.706]for you to evaluate the session.
- [00:04:59.995]You might still be in the process of downloading the app,
- [00:05:02.031]but there's several of you that have already registered.
- [00:05:04.438]We have a live poll going that we are going to do right now.
- [00:05:09.543]The question is, what is your favorite Nebraska-born food?
- [00:05:16.948]It looks like Runza is leading the charge right there.
- [00:05:21.279]By a large margin.
- [00:05:24.721]Look at that, live polling, instant results, woo!
- [00:05:30.119]The other thing I'm going to announce
- [00:05:31.304]before I get off the stage is the wi-fi password.
- [00:05:35.270]Everyone wants to know this so,
- [00:05:36.743]the network is h-c-c and the password is holtis2014.
- [00:05:42.048]Don't be confused, I didn't mean to say 2016.
- [00:05:44.537]It's 2014. Holtis2014.
- [00:05:48.462]That's all I have for you about the app.
- [00:05:49.688]Make sure you download it, make sure you connect.
- [00:05:52.268]Now I will introduce a short video about CYN.
- [00:05:56.486]("Back in Black" by AC/DC)
- [00:06:06.720]Hey young leaders.
- [00:06:07.745]Let's talk about you.
- [00:06:09.134]You are a hot commodity in both rural and urban areas
- [00:06:11.784]across the state.
- [00:06:13.049]The buzz is all about talent.
- [00:06:15.505]We're talking about attracting and retaining
- [00:06:17.258]young professionals or young leaders like yourselves.
- [00:06:19.824](rock music)
- [00:06:25.903]The Connecting Young Nebraskans network is designed
- [00:06:28.027]to be a place for 20 to 40 year olds to plug in
- [00:06:31.101]and have meaningful conversations about their lives,
- [00:06:33.791]their work, and their purpose.
- [00:06:36.002]The Summit is phenomenal because it's bringing
- [00:06:38.140]people in from all parts of the state.
- [00:06:40.218]It's bringing the rural and the urban together.
- [00:06:42.627]People are wanting to soak in something new.
- [00:06:45.240]We're all awaiting to hear someone else's opinion,
- [00:06:47.651]or someone else's new idea on a topic.
- [00:06:50.145]Connecting with individuals, learning different
- [00:06:51.944]perspectives from different communities.
- [00:06:53.626]It gives us a face-to-face connection.
- [00:06:55.668]I think it's very important to have
- [00:06:57.334]a community of all of us.
- [00:06:58.925]Bounce ideas off of each other.
- [00:07:00.311]The networking and the conversations are awesome,
- [00:07:02.760]they're fantastic.
- [00:07:03.785]People really are motivated to make lasting change.
- [00:07:06.280]One of the most exciting things is a room
- [00:07:07.711]of 180 people that are passionate about stepping
- [00:07:10.608]up in their communities.
- [00:07:13.387]Purpose. You can discover your purpose within CYN.
- [00:07:16.125]It's a network where you can connect to others,
- [00:07:18.206]and really talk about things that impact the future,
- [00:07:20.812]and make a difference in your life.
- [00:07:22.932]Maximize potential. CYNers have the ability
- [00:07:25.951]to provide a vital infusion of passion, energy,
- [00:07:29.427]and ideas into their community.
- [00:07:31.980]Learn how you can maximize your potential
- [00:07:34.071]and create engagement within your communities.
- [00:07:37.378]Diversify perspectives.
- [00:07:39.383]Diversity drives innovation.
- [00:07:41.503]Everyone's unique perspective is needed
- [00:07:44.002]to create communities of the future.
- [00:07:46.448]We work with community leaders to create a platform
- [00:07:48.610]for idea sharing and to drive progress.
- [00:07:51.876]Engage to retain.
- [00:07:53.876]Engage and network with other catalysts of change,
- [00:07:56.495]to harness creativity, and futuristic ideas
- [00:07:58.578]that drive change.
- [00:08:00.658]This investment in the next generation
- [00:08:02.819]will create robust leadership for the future.
- [00:08:05.719]We all have different talents and resources and ideas.
- [00:08:08.946]Young Nebraskans are an untapped potential.
- [00:08:11.596]We're stronger when we work together.
- [00:08:13.759]I think anytime you connect to people
- [00:08:15.348]you give them opportunities to do more than
- [00:08:17.718]they can do on their own.
- [00:08:18.904]I think people, our generation, really want
- [00:08:20.950]to make a difference.
- [00:08:22.741]By being in a network such as CYN,
- [00:08:24.966]you can get refueled, retooled, or shift
- [00:08:28.046]your world view.
- [00:08:29.758]Don't be afraid to be bold and challenge yourself
- [00:08:31.964]and others to think about the future of the state
- [00:08:34.398]and your own community.
- [00:08:35.911]Engage with the network.
- [00:08:37.298]Seek others and ask them to have coffee with you
- [00:08:39.869]or be a thinking partner.
- [00:08:41.623]Find a mentor. Just take a step to engage.
- [00:08:46.158]Connecting Young Nebraskans is about connecting
- [00:08:48.892]the states' talent.
