- [00:00:03.791]True, the stereotype around engineers
- [00:00:05.437]is that they keep to themselves,
- [00:00:06.638]they don't like to work in teams,
- [00:00:08.337]but I think Nebraska sort of challenges that stereotype
- [00:00:11.149]by encouraging students to take on leadership roles,
- [00:00:14.731]to do public speaking, do converses,
- [00:00:16.755]and network with people and do all these
- [00:00:19.509]work in teams.
- [00:00:20.925]It's very important to be adaptable
- [00:00:22.557]especially in the engineering world
- [00:00:24.661]cuz you're going to be faced with all these problems
- [00:00:26.583]that you're not going to be sure
- [00:00:28.249]how you're going to overcome it,
- [00:00:29.330]so you have to adapt to solve the problems.
- [00:00:31.660]I joined a chapter here
- [00:00:33.455]and they kind of became my support group.
- [00:00:35.879]That's how I kinda got to know more people
- [00:00:37.521]and then through my classes, I've just built
- [00:00:39.550]a bigger network of people that I know
- [00:00:42.011]that are just engineers and even outside of that.
- [00:00:45.301]I feel like my involvement
- [00:00:46.426]at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln
- [00:00:47.606]sets me apart from other applicants
- [00:00:49.409]because I've had the opportunity
- [00:00:51.447]to take on several leadership roles
- [00:00:53.210]in the organizations that I'm involved with here.
- [00:00:55.283](instrumental music)
- [00:00:57.301]I think engineering is conscientious
- [00:00:58.858]and especially at a time
- [00:01:00.371]when we're facing a lot of environmental challenges,
- [00:01:02.586]being conscientious of what we're doing
- [00:01:05.146]is so important today.
- [00:01:06.961](instrumental music)
