[00:00:11.841]in engineering at all or you really like a challenge,
[00:00:14.503]this is a great opportunity for you.
[00:00:16.369]There is the math and science part of it,
[00:00:18.455]but there's also a lot of creative side.
[00:00:20.423]We show up, we roll this beautiful car out of the trailer,
[00:00:23.839]and other teams say, oh there's the Nebraska team,
[00:00:26.919]don't want to have to race against them.
[00:00:29.351]Which is a good sign for us
[00:00:30.679]because that means we're doing well.
[00:00:33.066]But also because obviously we built
[00:00:35.231]a very sleek looking, nice car.
[00:00:37.367]Being a part of these programs
[00:00:39.231]and the mechanical engineering department,
[00:00:41.199]you're able to take what you learn in the classroom
[00:00:43.059]and really apply it to real world.
[00:00:44.991]We have a hundred percent placement rate of internships
[00:00:47.463]from freshman to senior level
[00:00:49.742]with our partners in the community.
[00:00:51.695]They donate to our team material, time, money,
[00:00:55.575]and they see the results that we get.
[00:00:57.488]They realize that we're better engineers
[00:00:59.399]coming out of the program.
[00:01:01.039]And they want to hire us as interns
[00:01:03.471]and eventually full time employees.
[00:01:05.447]The main thing that I've gotten out of the Baja team
[00:01:08.151]is real world experience.
[00:01:09.967]It's one thing to go do your calculus problems
[00:01:12.943]or go through your dynamics homework,
[00:01:14.655]but it's a completely nother thing
[00:01:16.008]to take that information and apply it and build a car.
[00:01:19.831]Having an engineering degree
[00:01:20.847]from the University of Nebraska coupled
[00:01:22.711]with the experience you gain on one of these teams,
[00:01:25.735]like the Baja team, the industry really recognizes
[00:01:28.983]the work that you've put in and the level
[00:01:31.831]of engineering that you're coming out with.
[00:01:33.457]And that puts you a foot ahead
[00:01:35.711]of other contenders from around the country.
