- [00:00:16.832]Hi, I'm Zoe, welcome to Mobile Learning in The Classroom.
- [00:00:20.226]Today, we're gonna be looking at an app called Curiosity.
- [00:00:22.949]Curiosity is similar to Flipboard,
- [00:00:24.400]but it has some differences.
- [00:00:26.356]With Curiosity, it gives you a daily digest
- [00:00:28.732]and they advertise their daily digest
- [00:00:31.403]with really, really engaging pictures
- [00:00:34.158]and a catchy little phrase, such as,
- [00:00:36.776]"There may be a fifth force of nature."
- [00:00:38.953]So it's designed to make you want to know more.
- [00:00:41.530]The sugar high is a myth.
- [00:00:43.553]Now, I know my parents accuse me
- [00:00:45.148]of having sugar highs frequently as a kid,
- [00:00:47.242]so I would wanna read this and figure out
- [00:00:49.136]is it really a myth?
- [00:00:50.836]Curiosity will give you a daily digest
- [00:00:53.095]of things that they think are interesting.
- [00:00:55.450]You can also go through and look under Subjects
- [00:00:58.620]and it will give you a pictorial representation
- [00:01:01.568]of a bunch of different subjects
- [00:01:03.006]that if you find one you find interesting, you can click on.
- [00:01:05.186]So Bears, so if you have kids,
- [00:01:07.919]small kids generally are really fascinated by animals,
- [00:01:10.671]so you can click on Bears and it'll automatically pull
- [00:01:13.687]all of the articles that are about bears.
- [00:01:17.428]So when you find one that you like, you can click on it,
- [00:01:20.737]and when it loads, you can read through
- [00:01:24.427]and again, it combines text with images
- [00:01:27.687]and then it gives you videos.
- [00:01:29.131]Some of the videos are short
- [00:01:30.594]and some of the videos are longer.
- [00:01:32.286]So as you go through, you can read, watch the video.
- [00:01:37.568]It'll give you some points to think about,
- [00:01:39.811]and then when you're done, if you click on the heart
- [00:01:42.122]at the bottom, it will give your profile
- [00:01:49.376]an extra little thing, so it'll keep track of what you read
- [00:01:53.552]so you always know what you've read.
- [00:01:56.270]So unlike Flipboard, you can't go through
- [00:02:00.999]and sort of curate your own collection, but on the plus side
- [00:02:05.014]this will automatically refresh everyday,
- [00:02:07.741]and it'll even keep tracks on the upper right hand corner.
- [00:02:10.494]It'll say the next digest is in 14 hours,
- [00:02:12.944]so you always will have a new batch of things to read,
- [00:02:16.276]and you can challenge yourself and go,
- [00:02:18.803]I wanna go through all of the things for today
- [00:02:20.792]or all of the things for the week,
- [00:02:23.531]or I just really wanna focus on a certain subject.
- [00:02:26.548]So one of my favorite parts of this is definitely
- [00:02:30.625]the fact that it combines the text
- [00:02:32.873]with the videos and with the images,
- [00:02:35.232]and that that keeps you engaged,
- [00:02:39.416]and I think for younger readers,
- [00:02:40.867]they'll appreciate the fact that they don't
- [00:02:42.667]have to read all of the text all at once.
- [00:02:44.617]They can watch a video, they can see an image.
