[00:00:02.246]My name is Mady. I'm from Wood River, Nebraska.
[00:00:04.880]I'm a dance major in the Glenn Korff School of Music
[00:00:06.939]at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.
[00:00:09.275]Growing up in Nebraska, I knew I was gonna come to UNL
[00:00:11.385]no matter what, and when I found out that they had
[00:00:14.078]a dance major, I was like, that's the cherry on top.
[00:00:17.029]I get to do what I love as my major.
[00:00:21.779]Modern is, it's everything...
[00:00:23.598]It can be flowy; it can be sharp movements,
[00:00:26.398]but it's more of an internal thing.
[00:00:28.206]It's more of the reason why you're doing this movement,
[00:00:31.718]or not - some people choreograph for no reason
[00:00:34.758]at all, just to make the movement.
[00:00:37.206]It has opened my mind to so much more.
[00:00:40.838]It's so important that dancers work out every week
[00:00:43.627]in order for us to keep our bodies healthy.
[00:00:45.918]So, I go and I lift weights, I get on the elliptical
[00:00:49.417]on the bike, basically anything.
[00:00:51.857]It really just helps our bodies
[00:00:53.476]on a different aspect from dance.
[00:00:57.287]When no one else is around, when the Sun is rising,
[00:01:00.108]I go out and run on Antelope Park, and it's a great time
[00:01:04.457]for me to just clear my whole head.
[00:01:06.721]I don't have to think about what I have due this night.
[00:01:10.033]I can just focus on myself and just get my day started.
[00:01:15.641]The faculty - they're mentors for us
[00:01:18.593]and teachers, I mean, they do everything.
[00:01:21.881]I have such close relationships with my teachers,
[00:01:25.111]and they help me with being a better person,
[00:01:27.932]learning everything that I possibly can
[00:01:29.441]about dance, anything about my future.
[00:01:31.652]They're open to talk to you about anything.
[00:01:35.982]When I was younger, I just thought of dances,
[00:01:38.631]you know, doing some kicks and some turns,
[00:01:40.353]and then coming here I grew so much.
[00:01:43.631]I know how to actually choreograph a dance,
[00:01:46.281]and after you're done you have this beautiful piece of work,
[00:01:49.342]and it gets to be in a show in the end of the semester.
[00:01:53.519]I never want to stop dancing.
