- [00:00:00.499](soft music)
- [00:00:02.024]I'm Madeline.
- [00:00:03.021]I'm a art major with a photography emphasis
- [00:00:05.357]at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
- [00:00:07.194](upbeat music)
- [00:00:10.216]When we're in our cars,
- [00:00:11.203]we don't think that people can see us
- [00:00:12.497]and so we're not having an active experience
- [00:00:14.285]but like when you're on a motorcycle,
- [00:00:15.837]you're like waving at other motorcyclists
- [00:00:17.294]and like so much seratonin going through your brain.
- [00:00:19.955]I feel like I'm in love every time I ride it.
- [00:00:21.798]I think I was probably like 13 years old
- [00:00:25.075]when my dad threw me a 35 millimeter camera
- [00:00:28.205]and showed me how to load a roll of film.
- [00:00:30.856]I still have my first roll of film somewhere
- [00:00:33.176]and it makes me laugh a lot
- [00:00:34.728]because it's really terrible
- [00:00:35.827]but I haven't really ever stopped taking photos since.
- [00:00:38.317]I try and do silly little things in my life
- [00:00:41.784]like never taking the same route twice.
- [00:00:43.997]It's just to keep your brain like munchy
- [00:00:46.077]and open to experiences that are unexpected.
- [00:00:48.315]Living an artful life
- [00:00:50.760]is not just like doing radically big things
- [00:00:55.064]but it's down to how you do the really mundane things
- [00:00:57.784]as well.
- [00:00:58.781]There's something really powerful
- [00:01:01.336]about making a photo
- [00:01:04.178]and I can't help but want to express myself in that way.
- [00:01:08.096]I find it to be really natural.
- [00:01:09.574]It's really fun to work in the darkroom
- [00:01:11.725]and to watch your print be exposed.
- [00:01:14.691]It feels like magic every time.
- [00:01:16.723]It never, ever gets old.
- [00:01:19.880]I want to have a quality education
- [00:01:23.437]and I want to like be informed
- [00:01:26.716]about how to be a successful artist.
- [00:01:29.095]It's great to have professors who are
- [00:01:31.560]working in their own field
- [00:01:33.107]and are having shows
- [00:01:35.332]and publishing books and helping us to
- [00:01:37.515]network with other creative professionals.
- [00:01:40.758]They really like help
- [00:01:43.160]merge your experience as as student
- [00:01:45.736]with your experience in trying to become a
- [00:01:48.301]professional artist.
