- [00:00:07.754]I would say I'm most proud of
- [00:00:10.387]the students that I've worked with at UNL,
- [00:00:13.430]and the fact that I've had doctoral students come through the program.
- [00:00:17.480]I had a doctoral student who recently graduated two years ago
- [00:00:21.048]who is a successful assistant professor at the University of Western Michigan.
- [00:00:26.010]I have another student who will be graduating this December,
- [00:00:29.076]and another who I'll be co-mentoring while she'll finish up her doctoral program.
- [00:00:33.704]So I'd say for my Ph.D.s and also my Au.D.s,
- [00:00:36.142]just getting to work with the students
- [00:00:38.066]and watching them go from just newbies
- [00:00:41.458]to colleagues when they're finished.
- [00:00:44.796]So that's probably the thing I'm most proud of.
- [00:00:49.704]I think that the individuals that I've worked with
- [00:00:52.631]will also remember probably the influence
- [00:00:56.829]and hopefully the impact that I've made on the students at UNL.
- [00:00:59.761]So that's what I'm most proud of and also what I hope
- [00:01:01.852]will also be the most memorable for others within the department -
- [00:01:04.504]is just trying to really build up and work with the other professors in audiology
- [00:01:10.027]for the Doctor of Audiology program, and trying to have students
- [00:01:13.947]become successful clinicians at the end of the program,
- [00:01:17.215]and also successful scientists.
- [00:01:19.334]I hope that that's what will be the most memorable from my work.
- [00:01:23.304]On a scale of what I've done for my work,
- [00:01:26.932]I've tried to really work hard to break some gaps
- [00:01:30.549]or to merge some gaps with interdisciplinary research,
- [00:01:36.044]and really trying to make collaborations throughout the university,
- [00:01:39.034]and I hope that that'll be something that I'll be remembered for -
- [00:01:41.497]is just how hard I worked to establish some connections
- [00:01:44.961]to keep research going and to move in a direction
- [00:01:47.611]of interdisciplinary practice.
- [00:01:53.720]It's hot here. (Laughs) It's really hot in Nebraska.
- [00:01:58.264]Uh, let's see here, what will I remember most?
- [00:02:03.557]I think I'll remember the really good times teaching
- [00:02:09.159]I'll remember that and really just being able to
- [00:02:13.535]engage a class in a discussion of a topic that they're not that familiar with.
- [00:02:17.697]I'll remember that.
- [00:02:20.139]I'll remember the good times working with the students on projects,
- [00:02:25.367]and getting to see the projects come from, you know,
- [00:02:28.805]just discussion to completion.
- [00:02:31.524]I'll remember the good times working with the student-athletes.
- [00:02:36.506]A lot of my research was focused on that.
- [00:02:38.805]And I think having the students engage with
- [00:02:40.231]the student-athletes, which had not been done before
- [00:02:42.534]for an audiology program.
- [00:02:44.949]And I think I'll just really remember the faculty
- [00:02:47.303]and all of the colleagues, and now friends,
- [00:02:49.659]that I have here at Nebraska,
- [00:02:51.522]and the fact that I'll still be able to call them my friends
- [00:02:53.828]when I leave, and I'll be calling upon them when I go,
- [00:02:56.074]and I think I'll remember that most.
- [00:03:01.693]I think just the environment.
- [00:03:04.604]I like academia,
- [00:03:06.127]and I like that environment.
- [00:03:08.109]And I don't know, there's something
- [00:03:10.017]just really invigorating
- [00:03:12.648]about the fall, and every year when the new students come on campus.
- [00:03:16.593]That, I'll miss that aspect of being in that environment
- [00:03:19.435]with the new students, and sitting down with them
- [00:03:23.385]for the first time, knowing that we're going to
- [00:03:26.174]be together for many, many years.
- [00:03:29.243]You know, I think that part I'll miss quite a bit.
- [00:03:35.530]Be open to try things.
- [00:03:37.927]Don't be afraid to try.
- [00:03:39.769]That's what my motto is -
- [00:03:40.739]is just never, never, never, never give up.
- [00:03:43.465]And be willing to talk to people
- [00:03:47.189]because I think anything is possible here
- [00:03:49.461]at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln,
- [00:03:51.214]and I've had very good success when you reach out
- [00:03:53.546]and you take that chance to ask somebody,
- [00:03:56.325]and that can just bridge so many connections.
- [00:04:00.906]And I think just be a bit of a risk taker.
- [00:04:03.525]I think that's the biggest thing for
- [00:04:05.289]advice for a new person -
- [00:04:06.510]is just don't be afraid to ask,
- [00:04:08.105]don't be afraid to try again,
- [00:04:10.883]and don't be afraid to reach out and make connections
- [00:04:13.379]that you never thought you could before.
