[00:00:09.162]I spend a lot of time with the Equal Justice Society
[00:00:11.715]here with the Law School,
[00:00:13.711]and what our mission is,
[00:00:14.969]is to bring in people from the community
[00:00:16.524]and different community leaders
[00:00:18.569]to talk about experiences
[00:00:20.252]from outside of the traditional legal field,
[00:00:22.567]so outside of law firms.
[00:00:24.518]I chose to participate
[00:00:25.703]in the Client Counseling Competition
[00:00:27.329]because before I went to law school,
[00:00:29.201]I was actually a social worker,
[00:00:30.895]and this competition really gave me the opportunity
[00:00:33.031]to bring my social work skills,
[00:00:35.033]mixed in with the law,
[00:00:37.002]and it was just a rare opportunity
[00:00:38.490]to be able to mix the two.
[00:00:39.881]What I'm really interested in,
[00:00:41.163]and what a number of people at Nebraska Law
[00:00:42.630]are really interested in,
[00:00:43.806]is taking our legal education and applying it
[00:00:46.468]to our community,
[00:00:47.670]filling voids in our community
[00:00:49.409]through different nonprofit organizations.
[00:00:51.629]I'm actually clerking at ACLU,
[00:00:53.438]and last semester I was an extern at
[00:00:55.783]the Nebraska Supreme Court Dispute Resolution.
[00:00:57.991]Working at both of those organizations
[00:00:59.754]really gave me the opportunity to be able to
[00:01:02.907]use the legal writing and research skills that I learned.
[00:01:06.020]I'll be able to come out with
[00:01:07.018]a less debt-load than other of my peers,
[00:01:10.295]and what that allows me to do,
[00:01:11.527]as someone who's interested in public interest,
[00:01:13.149]is really to go out and explore different opportunities.
[00:01:15.944]I won't be saddled with the amount of debt
[00:01:17.841]that some other people in different law schools are.
[00:01:20.913]I chose Nebraska Law because
[00:01:22.257]during the recruitment process,
[00:01:23.793]I really felt like they wanted me to be here.
[00:01:25.847]They reached out to me,
[00:01:27.081]they were only an email away or a phone call away,
[00:01:29.722]and they really just made it seem like
[00:01:31.594]they cared about my education.
