- [00:00:00.227](guitar music)
- [00:00:08.195]My name is Macey Morgan.
- [00:00:09.996]I studied communication studies
- [00:00:11.724]at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
- [00:00:14.315]I currently work in the staffing and recruiting industry
- [00:00:17.122]in the talent and development department.
- [00:00:19.763]So essentially what that means is when new trainees
- [00:00:23.433]come into our organization, I train them, coach them,
- [00:00:27.561]mentor them to get them ramped up
- [00:00:29.601]so they can be successful sales and recruiting people
- [00:00:33.009]on their teams.
- [00:00:35.400]What I've learned as a communication studies major
- [00:00:38.396]has prepared me for success in a plethora of different ways,
- [00:00:42.596]so whether it comes to writing my resume,
- [00:00:46.721]sending it out to the virtual web
- [00:00:48.463]and hoping to get interviews back
- [00:00:50.599]and actually going into those interviews very confidently
- [00:00:55.543]and being able to have purposeful conversations
- [00:00:58.879]with those hiring managers has helped me land
- [00:01:04.394]my internship and then that turned into my career,
- [00:01:07.410]which I hope I'm at for a long time,
- [00:01:09.402]and in fact I've moved up a few positions since then,
- [00:01:12.403]so I think that the communications studies major
- [00:01:16.603]has given me the confidence to voice my opinion
- [00:01:20.466]in the business world.
- [00:01:22.098]I use what I learned in my communication studies major
- [00:01:25.410]in my career field each day, through advocating,
- [00:01:28.194]negotiating, and relating to the people that I train.
- [00:01:31.457]So I work with their hiring managers,
- [00:01:34.458]and then I work with them,
- [00:01:35.538]so being able to have the empathy to advocate for them
- [00:01:39.834]and then negotiating with managers,
- [00:01:42.715]the different clients that they're working with
- [00:01:44.442]helps me be able to relate to them.
- [00:01:46.746]I believe that my communication studies degree
- [00:01:49.362]has helped me stand out from my peers and colleagues
- [00:01:51.954]through my confidence.
- [00:01:54.283]When people hear the way that I'm able to communicate
- [00:01:57.306]with all walks of life throughout our company
- [00:02:00.522]and be truly engaged and interested in what they have to say
- [00:02:04.146]I think that goes beyond any type of skill.
- [00:02:07.482]I think the possibilities with the
- [00:02:09.066]communication studies degree is essentially endless.
- [00:02:11.946]I'm a firm believer that communications is the foundation
- [00:02:16.147]of all business.
- [00:02:18.738]I think that if you're a poor communicator,
- [00:02:20.922]you won't be very successful out in the world.
- [00:02:24.474](upbeat music)
