[00:00:10.223]and I've been here since 1998.
[00:00:12.804]I like it because it's a wonderful university
[00:00:15.702]and the department is a close community with a set of
[00:00:20.009]faculty who care about one another, who are very
[00:00:22.861]professional and productive.
[00:00:24.129]They care deeply about their teaching and we have
[00:00:27.215]a very good relationship with our undergraduate students
[00:00:29.885]and our graduate students.
[00:00:31.156]It's been an absolutely wonderful place to work.
[00:00:34.801]I try to hire people that think of the department
[00:00:38.513]as more than just a place to work but as a home
[00:00:43.097]and try to create a family environment to some degree.
[00:00:46.489]The thing that I enjoy most about the department is
[00:00:48.908]that people really care about each other.
[00:00:51.313]They care about themselves, they care about their fellow
[00:00:54.021]colleagues, but they also care about their students.
[00:00:56.893]And that was so critically important to me as a
[00:00:59.634]department chair that we had a faculty that was inviting,
[00:01:04.325]engaging and also at the cutting edge of
[00:01:07.933]much of their research work.
[00:01:10.244]I love the faculty at the communication studies
[00:01:12.822]department.
[00:01:13.655]They're always open minded enough to a lot of perspectives.
[00:01:16.888]So each class & each faculty member that we've worked with.
[00:01:20.197]I've always had just a ton of passion with them where
[00:01:23.736]they're always interested in what we're studying
[00:01:26.598]what we wanna research.
[00:01:28.186]If I'm looking into certain projects or avenues
[00:01:30.476]they're always willing to help find solutions or find ideas
[00:01:33.237]to help make sure that I get to where I want to get.
[00:01:35.684]So I really enjoy it.
[00:01:37.158]One of the things that I like about the department of
[00:01:39.802]communication studies is is the overall commitment our
[00:01:42.566]department has to excellence.
[00:01:44.177]That's excellence in research, excellence in teaching
[00:01:46.999]and overall excellence in support of one another and
[00:01:49.999]the students that come to our department to learn.

[00:01:55.318]I've had a really good experience.
[00:01:57.285]I've gone to office hours.
[00:01:58.797]I've also seen the faculty outside of the classroom
[00:02:02.074]and I can tell that they're friends
[00:02:04.708]and by seeing that the faculty are friends and they
[00:02:07.565]enjoy their presence it really makes students wanting to
[00:02:10.758]go to the office hours or talk to them and
[00:02:14.108]also creating those professional relationships.

[00:02:18.789]department of communication studies.
[00:02:21.323]But one of the things that I really like the way I would
[00:02:25.074]describe this department is that it is rigorous academically
[00:02:29.766]with a family feel.

[00:02:34.210]They stay true to their office hours and they're more
[00:02:36.893]than willing to meet with you at a time
[00:02:38.809]that meets your schedule.
[00:02:40.953]What do I like about the communication faculty at UNL?
[00:02:43.838]One: I think it's a very good faculty.

[00:03:08.676]What I really like about the department of communications
[00:03:11.691]studies is the family atmosphere.
[00:03:13.295]University of Nebraska Lincoln is a big campus but
[00:03:15.222]but when you're in the department of communication studies
[00:03:17.548]you really feel like you have a home.
[00:03:19.299]You have a family.
[00:03:20.424]Undergraduate students have a strong connection with us.
[00:03:22.777]Most of our classes are small, 30 students or less.
[00:03:25.250]We interact with those students.
[00:03:26.903]You get to know faculty on a personal basis.

[00:03:31.174]Really have a connection here.
[00:03:32.695]And I think in a place that can often be big
[00:03:34.870]communication studies makes it feel like a home
[00:03:36.945]and a family environment where students can really connect
