[00:00:13.653]My first question is, what encouraged you
[00:00:15.933]to send me to Nebraska?
[00:00:19.705]I think it was your lifelong dream.
[00:00:21.005]You knew in middle school you wanted to come
[00:00:22.665]to the University of Nebraska.
[00:00:23.991]I wouldn't say that we encouraged it,
[00:00:25.938]but we certainly didn't discourage it.
[00:00:27.625]Your mom and I got a real good education here
[00:00:29.473]and we were excited when you chose
[00:00:30.705]University of Nebraska as the place
[00:00:32.465]to further your education.
[00:00:34.545]Why did you both choose UNL?
[00:00:36.551]Both my two older sisters went here
[00:00:39.586]and my two brothers in law, so there was a lot of
[00:00:42.462]history here.
[00:00:44.320]What was the best thing about being at school here?
[00:00:46.751]Well, your mom I met in that building
[00:00:48.092]right across the park right there,
[00:00:50.174]so I would have to say I met your mom and my future wife.
[00:00:54.881]Other than that, we had a lot of fun on campus,
[00:00:57.686]but we also worked pretty hard, got our degrees
[00:01:01.216]and it's certainly served us well, I think.
[00:01:03.275]So you were a CBA grad.
[00:01:05.342]What was the biggest benefit?
[00:01:06.734]You know, Nicci, your college degree
[00:01:08.282]is gonna open doors for ya.
[00:01:10.082]You don't need a college education to succeed in life,
[00:01:12.639]but it certainly gives you a leg up
[00:01:14.714]on a lot of other competition out there
[00:01:16.564]that might be seeking similar jobs that you're seeking
[00:01:19.062]across your life.
[00:01:20.922]So the greatest advantage was
[00:01:25.219]it gives us a well-rounded background,
[00:01:27.599]but it also opened plenty of doors
[00:01:29.876]that I seriously doubt would have opened
[00:01:31.495]had I not had a college degree.
[00:01:33.318]And I was not a CBA grad
[00:01:35.305]but I took a lot of classes in CBA,
[00:01:37.554]which helped me along with the degree I got.
[00:01:40.656]So definitely.
[00:01:43.115]How do you think the College of Business
[00:01:44.036]has changed me and prepared me for success?
[00:01:47.435]How did it change you?
[00:01:49.035]It has made you blossom
[00:01:52.596]and you knew who you were in high school,
[00:01:55.920]but going to Nebraska and CBA you just
[00:01:59.930]really, really, like I said, blossomed.
[00:02:03.161]You're just a whole new person having gone through
[00:02:05.959]this whole program.
[00:02:07.526]You had a lot of experience through high school
[00:02:09.978]with different marketing programs and things like that,
[00:02:12.398]but what I think what the College of Business
[00:02:14.360]administration gave you was,
[00:02:16.498]I think it rounded the hard edges a little bit more
[00:02:20.067]and certainly you've reached a higher level of maturity
[00:02:25.078]and honestly I think through your internship
[00:02:27.460]at Northwestern Mutual, you were granted an opportunity
[00:02:30.840]to experience a different level of professionalism
[00:02:32.862]a lot earlier in your life than otherwise.
[00:02:37.220]So yeah, I think you're ready to go.
[00:02:39.780]You're ready for life now.
[00:02:41.060]You've got your college degree.
[00:02:42.400]You've got your internship and you've got
[00:02:43.975]your full-time profession, which is just
[00:02:45.682]right around the corner.
[00:02:46.681]So I'm pretty excited for ya.

[00:02:52.313]I mean, getting to be a financial representative
[00:02:54.730]with Northwestern Mutual is huge coming out of college
[00:02:58.753]and that's because of what CBA helped you with.
[00:03:03.203]So I'm getting my degree tomorrow.
[00:03:05.122]What do you think the value of a Nebraska degree is?
[00:03:08.860]Well, it's certainly what you make of it,
[00:03:10.740]but having a degree from a big 10 school
[00:03:13.280]and the quality of big 10 school like
[00:03:14.940]the University of Nebraska, is certainly
[00:03:16.120]not gonna hurt ya at all.
[00:03:18.038]But in terms of the experiences
[00:03:19.320]and like I mentioned earlier,
[00:03:20.450]that doors that will open for you, it's priceless.
[00:03:23.738]How about you, Mom, what do you think the value
[00:03:25.402]of a Nebraska degree is?
[00:03:27.180]Well I will say that both of my brothers in law,
[00:03:30.967]my sisters, myself, and your dad,
[00:03:33.713]and my brother, all Nebraska grads
[00:03:35.999]have done wonderful in the workplace
[00:03:39.462]and any jobs that we've had
[00:03:43.060]and I really thank Nebraska.
[00:03:46.346]You're very grounded and I do believe
[00:03:49.200]that that, along with having the piece of paper,
[00:03:52.580]that is going to help you by far
[00:03:56.660]as it has helped all of us.
[00:03:58.560]Great.
