[00:00:03.835]My name is Jessica Vazquez,
[00:00:05.020]and I was given the opportunity to
[00:00:07.345]represent the Humanities.
[00:00:08.998]I am currently a senior,
[00:00:10.651]majoring in English, French, Spanish,
[00:00:13.692]and Film Studies.
[00:00:15.089]The honor that was bestowed upon me
[00:00:17.136]has to do a little bit with the range
[00:00:20.134]that I have within the college
[00:00:21.968]and that has given me the opportunity to
[00:00:23.611]really get to explore every facet of the Humanities.
[00:00:26.566]Exploring everything from Film Studies
[00:00:29.447]with our wonderful staff,
[00:00:31.323]through the English Department
[00:00:32.807]and then through Modern Languages.
[00:00:34.459]I came to the United States
[00:00:36.315]when I was 12 years old.
[00:00:37.735]And, my Freshman year,
[00:00:39.943]here at the University of Nebraska Lincoln
[00:00:41.819]I was given the opportunity to become
[00:00:44.144]a DACA recipient,
[00:00:45.627]which was the program that
[00:00:47.184]President Obama put in place back in 2012.
[00:00:49.809]Through this program,
[00:00:50.896]I was given the opportunity
[00:00:52.785]to apply and receive a scholarship
[00:00:54.801]to go study in France for a full semester,
[00:00:57.499]which I did last year.
[00:00:58.960]And it was just such an enriching
[00:01:01.233]and wonderful opportunity to
[00:01:04.208]get to see, not just the perspective from
[00:01:07.184]the United States and Nebraska,
[00:01:09.019]but also from France,
[00:01:10.599]and expand my world knowlege.
[00:01:12.912]I can not thank enough
[00:01:14.406]all of the support that has been given to me,
[00:01:18.352]through Humanities Department.
[00:01:20.624]All of the wonderful professors,
[00:01:21.990]all of the wonderful advisors,
[00:01:23.248]the Honors Program,
[00:01:24.763]the William Thompson Community, and
[00:01:30.023]It's just been such a fulfilling experience.
[00:01:32.614]Because what makes Humanities so wonderful
[00:01:36.336]is that you are given the opportunity
[00:01:38.257]to think for yourself,
[00:01:39.772]to explore the world via
[00:01:43.504]all of the wonderful books
[00:01:44.785]and stories of other people,
[00:01:46.662]but to create and shape your own story,
[00:01:48.827]and to just, fill it with everything
[00:01:51.431]that you want to say.
[00:01:53.105]And I think, the humanities has seen
[00:01:56.103]through, in my opinion, in this university
[00:02:00.091]it's taken very seriously,
[00:02:01.393]which is something
[00:02:02.608]that I found very rewarding.
[00:02:04.880]And just,
[00:02:06.758]It's been an amazing journey.
[00:02:08.923]And in fact it has been so great
[00:02:10.428]that I am staying a fifth year
[00:02:11.943]to finish my program, and enjoy another year
[00:02:15.399]at the Humanities Department, so.
[00:02:17.329]That's a little bit of the senior reflection.
