- [00:00:04.449]I'm Chloe Neuvirth.
- [00:00:05.516]I'm from Blair, Nebraska
- [00:00:06.956]and I'm an interior design student
- [00:00:08.695]at the Univeristy of Nebraska-Lincoln.
- [00:00:13.388]Three years ago I had no clue what I wanted to do
- [00:00:16.705]and then once I found the College of Architecture
- [00:00:20.076]and interior design especially,
- [00:00:23.511]it let my mind run and it gave me the opportunity
- [00:00:26.572]to just be creative
- [00:00:28.663]and have this sense of logic and creativity
- [00:00:31.927]to become more of who I am.
- [00:00:35.244]You think it's going to be a big school when you come in,
- [00:00:37.569]but actually you learn that it's small
- [00:00:40.161]and local at the same time.
- [00:00:41.953]I know every single person in my class
- [00:00:44.855]and we go together as a team through every year
- [00:00:48.012]and I love that I have such a good relation
- [00:00:51.617]with my professors
- [00:00:52.684]and they know my name by the second class period.
- [00:00:58.689]The teachers really care about you
- [00:01:00.321]and they care about what you go on to do
- [00:01:04.012]past the class that they have you in.
- [00:01:07.772]They give you the opportunity to see life bigger.
- [00:01:11.250]I love being at the College of Architecture
- [00:01:13.532]because it's a family.
- [00:01:16.380]We stay here days and nights
- [00:01:19.218]getting to know each other,
- [00:01:20.263]but our professors are right there with us.
- [00:01:22.930]I want to transform the way people live through design.
- [00:01:26.439]For this project,
- [00:01:27.132]we went over understanding food
- [00:01:30.290]and getting fresh produce into the city.
- [00:01:32.658]We began by researching the site over here,
- [00:01:35.335]which is the Pershing Center
- [00:01:36.892]and it's an abandoned event space
- [00:01:39.026]that used to be the heart of Lincoln.
- [00:01:41.436]It used to hold circuses and concerts
- [00:01:43.943]and used to be something that
- [00:01:45.692]brought the community together.
- [00:01:47.868]Researching the site of the Pershing Center,
- [00:01:50.012]it became clear that it was located
- [00:01:51.794]in a food desert.
- [00:01:53.191]I wanted to reactivate the space
- [00:01:56.114]to bring people back in,
- [00:01:57.628]but for a different cause.
- [00:02:00.060]That brought along the project Continuum
- [00:02:03.292]and Continuum is this cultural hub
- [00:02:06.396]that brings art and food together
- [00:02:08.956]in seeing how we can solve the issue
- [00:02:10.791]of food distribution
- [00:02:11.996]as well as bringing in community.
- [00:02:15.154]I want to see a food hub
- [00:02:17.991]and not only a food hub,
- [00:02:19.218]but just the culture of Lincoln
- [00:02:21.863]brought back to one spot.
- [00:02:24.466]I want to see people interacting with
- [00:02:26.972]people who they normally don't interact with
- [00:02:29.276]on a daily basis
- [00:02:30.642]and bringing all types of people
- [00:02:32.412]to one central location.
- [00:02:36.892]I love drawing and I love art
- [00:02:39.004]and there's so many places around town
- [00:02:41.512]I can just bring my sketchbook
- [00:02:42.696]and let my mind destress and just sketch.
- [00:02:48.520]You can go into a coffeeshop or a store
- [00:02:51.219]and feel enlightened.
- [00:02:53.683]You feel like that's your other place
- [00:02:55.880]and as a designer,
- [00:02:57.373]you can create those moments
- [00:02:58.536]for other people to experience
- [00:03:00.947]and having people know your name there
- [00:03:03.389]and know your drink
- [00:03:04.243]is really a very home experience.
- [00:03:09.139]I get a double vanilla latte with skim
- [00:03:13.256]and they already know that
- [00:03:14.504]so it's wonderful.
- [00:03:18.429]I think what surprised me was
- [00:03:20.029]seeing a city that has so many
- [00:03:23.101]personal pieces to it,
- [00:03:24.659]so many pieces that make
- [00:03:26.536]people want to stay here.
- [00:03:28.093]I guess I just wanted to bring those out
- [00:03:30.013]and show that through my design.
- [00:03:33.107]I really believe that I know
- [00:03:35.773]exactly what I want to do
- [00:03:37.096]for the rest of my life.
