[00:00:00.177]Today the Learning Commons opens,
[00:00:01.883]and it is definitely a student study space
[00:00:06.107]as well as a place where they'll
[00:00:08.710]be able to get questions answered.
[00:00:11.056]What we hope that the students experience,
[00:00:13.446]is a selection of study areas.
[00:00:15.792]From group study rooms with technology,
[00:00:19.454]a quiet study area, an active study area,
[00:00:24.817]that will have programming and technology in it.
[00:00:28.072]Traditionally on our campus,
[00:00:29.428]we've had our help center in a space
[00:00:31.485]that wasn't as public as many places have been,
[00:00:34.216]and we chose to bring the help services
[00:00:36.806]closer to the students and public.
[00:00:40.515]We've added services such as laptop checkout,
[00:00:44.308]public printing on a kiosk-based forum,
[00:00:47.003]so essentially we can print from anywhere
[00:00:49.697]to anywhere on campus,
[00:00:51.569]and that's a prominent place that we're supporting
[00:00:54.000]here in Learning Commons.
[00:00:55.486]Technology is possible
[00:00:58.166]due to a relationship with
[00:01:01.105]information technology and services.
[00:01:03.485]And that also means that our service area
[00:01:06.950]has not only librarians as experts,
[00:01:10.098]but technology people as experts.
[00:01:12.795]So they'll be able to bring in their Android
[00:01:15.624]or their laptop or their iPad and say,
[00:01:18.107]"There's something wrong, I need help."
[00:01:20.283]And they'll also be able to get
[00:01:21.256]their research questions answered.
