[00:00:08.824]from mild traumatic brain injury,
[00:00:11.082]and sports concussions.
[00:00:14.810]In a larger sense I'm interested in
[00:00:17.966]what's called "construct validity."
[00:00:19.732]That is, what is it that we're really measuring,
[00:00:22.668]and how do we measure things
[00:00:24.960]such as recovery,
[00:00:26.940]or the validity and reliability of our tests.
[00:00:32.178]We don't know what a concussion is biologically.
[00:00:34.738]That's sort of the holy grail right now
[00:00:36.458]is to find a biological marker for concussion.
[00:00:39.438]We're also very interested in
[00:00:42.012]how does that process even start,
[00:00:44.012]and does one concussion do it, two, three?
[00:00:47.492]Is there something about
[00:00:49.340]some other factors like lifestyle?
[00:00:51.668]Are there ways that we can both
[00:00:54.220]identify protective factors,
[00:00:57.078]and then things we can do from
[00:00:59.798]a treatment perspective
[00:01:01.198]to help people recover more effectively.
[00:01:04.754]It's probably the only place
[00:01:06.932]like it on the planet
[00:01:08.212]where we have high end tools in one place,
[00:01:11.632]where we have relationship
[00:01:13.812]with an athletic department,
[00:01:15.072]where we have pretty good access
[00:01:16.572]to the athletes and they partner with us.
[00:01:19.652]We have students who are
[00:01:21.508]really bright and motivated,
[00:01:23.228]in a very diverse and multidisciplinary faculty
[00:01:26.908]who have come together here to study this.
