[00:00:03.494]and I am a Landscape Architecture student
[00:00:05.294]at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
[00:00:08.184]I grew up an hour and a half away from Lincoln,
[00:00:10.144]so seeing Lincoln was kind of like
[00:00:12.428]an iconic city that everybody wanted to go to,
[00:00:14.917]all the shops and all of the restaurants were here
[00:00:17.817]and Husker Game Day was here
[00:00:19.717]and the goal was to get to Lincoln.
[00:00:24.051]My dad came to UNL, my sister came to UNL,
[00:00:26.631]and when she came, I knew we had
[00:00:28.590]a legacy of the people who came here,
[00:00:31.017]and I knew that that's something I wanted to be a part of.
[00:00:35.184]My family has always been connected
[00:00:37.238]to the outdoors in some way,
[00:00:38.717]so growing up, I was always outdoors playing
[00:00:43.231]or I went to the farm with my dad
[00:00:45.314]and so coming into a major that's based on the outdoors,
[00:00:49.530]I knew from experience that I liked being there
[00:00:52.928]and what I was creating would be something
[00:00:54.884]that people would enjoy being in.
[00:00:58.817]When I came into the major,
[00:01:00.740]I definitely didn't think I was creative at all.
[00:01:03.551]And I was like, what am I doing?
[00:01:05.084]I can't do this.
[00:01:06.650]And then I kept going,
[00:01:07.717]and you keep going and you realize
[00:01:09.384]that they're teaching you how to be creative
[00:01:11.084]and it's helping you with ideas and designing
[00:01:15.034]and when you get to the end, you realize
[00:01:17.947]that you might actually know what you're doing.
[00:01:23.116]When I'm not doing homework,
[00:01:24.451]I'm usually in the stadium with color guard
[00:01:27.951]spinning my flag and practicing,
[00:01:30.217]or on game days, so I'm here a lot.
[00:01:34.918]People are starting to recognize,
[00:01:36.248]"Oh, hey, you're from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
[00:01:38.616]That's a good program."
[00:01:41.084]Having that name, it's something that we are building
[00:01:43.847]as we go through the program.
[00:01:46.417]At the end of the day,
[00:01:47.298]I know that when I come out of this university,
[00:01:50.107]and when I go into the real world,
[00:01:51.764]I'll have the skills and abilities needed
[00:01:54.130]to actually make a difference.
